In this way they have a clear idea of what they want and how to obtain their ends. They lay down their ultimatum, and cnn only bc driven from their position by unity, patience and firmness-throe qualities which, among Hie shippers, seem to be sadly wanting. Thc longshoremen regard this as a fair trial of st rengt li, a fair light for supremacy. If they fail they will yield quietly, for there ls no bud blood, so far, bcLwoen thu workman and the employer. Hut if they triumph, as they expect to do, theil they will use, to the ut most, every power which victory may give them. Our opinion of the conduct ol' both em ployers and employed is already known. Wo desire that the laborers may be well paid, and when thc time comos this pa per will fight as sturdily as any for thc rights of thc workingman.
