Whilo wo favor Ibo building of tho Blue Ridgo rokd, yet we believe that dircot communica? tion can be bad botwoon Cincinnati and our seaboard, by tho Ashville route, beforo a tunnel can bo bored through the monutains for the Blue Ridge Road. Wo boliovo tli nt there is no railroad project now in contemplation of more vital importance to Charleaton and South Carolina. This road must be speedily built. And tho proper way to coromonco ia to commence it homo. Uniou and Spartanbnrg, and thc counties in North Carolina through which the road will pass, co.nld and should raise five hundred thousand dollars. Riiso that amount along Ibo lino of the road, and the road will assuredly bo built. Tho first spike driven on this extonsion wilt increase tho prico ot land within ton milet- of tho railroad, from Alston to the North Caro? lina-lino, at loast one dollar per aero, ou an average; a total ot over one million dollars. lt is lust oui or those roads in which a man may take stock largely; with a certainty of its being a paying invoatmont, without reference to dividends. .Tho increase in.valuo of bis lands, and a corresponding depreciation of twenty-five per cent, in the prico of bacon, IF rd, corn and Western produce generally, are dividends enough. But the road, when built, most do a large amount of business, and ac? cumulate every year a heavy net onrplue for distribution among stockholders. THE ASHVILLE riAILHOD. . . Tbe advantages of tbe French Broad ronlo over any other have beon BO long and thoroughly diso lated as to render lt useless to do more than keep tho subject before tho publio mind, that they may not forget the facts that bave been so thoroughly demonstrated as regards the benefits, and really tho aotual necessity of the extension ot the Spartanbng and Union Road through to Ashville, North Carolina, thoa completing the gap in the great Charleston and Cincinnati Road. That the claims of this route over those of any other are numerous and pressing, any un? prejudiced mind will admit. These claims do not ariao alono from the cheapness of the route as.compared with others- though this ia great and sufficient to glvo lt prefer? ence-but also tbe security which ita comple? tion will afford to tbo commercial interests ol the State, in which tbe City pf Charleston is sc directly interested. This road'once complet? ed, its natural advantages in location, and its direotnesB from tha seaboard to Louisville Cincinnati and the great Northwest, will se? cure it against any competition from othej routes direoted to tba same points, or against divergent linea touching At any other point or the seaboard than Charleston. The laws ol trade are inflexible, and freight and travel wil always seek the shortest rente to a oommeroU mart because it ia cheapest and moat exped? tiona.
