The ommlttee wera charged with preparing a memorial to Congress, asking au appropria? tion to deepen thia ohannel; but inasmuch as they are unable to get any estimate ot the ex? penses, they are at a looa bow to prepare a proper memorial, and wonld recommend tba*, appho dion be made to the Treasury Depart? ment to have a rorvoy made, and an estimate taken of the expense, wich a view to asking such appropriation.
