A Pleasing t obbeotion.?The little child of Mr. Keunedy, whose fall and presumed death was chronicled in Monday's issue, is, we learn, in a fair way to recovery. His arm was fraotured, and he received some severe injuries about the h jad, but he is not oonsidered to be mortally hurt. Improvement?.?-Mr. O. F. Levy bas juet completed a two-story brick house on tbe oast e;d3 of Friend, near Broad-street. Dr. Wragg lies commeuood a house at the foot of Broad-street, which will bo of brick and three stories high. Mr. Kenney is superin tending the building of it. Disobdebly Women.?Yesterday Elizabeth Donaboe and Emma Niobols, white, were ar raigned before tbe Mayor upon the charge of being drunk and creating a not in Kirkland's lane. They were eaoh sentenced to twenty days' imprisonment. Thea* women were in mates of the house in Kirkland's lane which was set on fire a short time oinoe. The Edisto Riot.?Magistrates Ksnapaux and DeLarge, who have been Investigating this affair, have required Mosas Gadaden, Al fred Smith, Brutus Jenkins and Mosas Small, to give bonds for their appearance before tho State Court, to Answer the charge of being en gaged in tbe riot. There ace other matters connected with this riot whioh are being in quired mto. _ Whats Up??Dr. A. Ck, Alderman T. J., and Sheriff K. W. M. Mackey left for Columbia Sunday morning. When .the whole Maokey family is pouted at on* time into the la? of Colombia it is evident that something is up? that tho wheel of politioa is revolving the wrong way or is out of order, and tbev desire to put a nail m it to stop it, or to reverse the "order of its going." Thb Late Riot.?The investigation in the oases Of. the parties charged with being con nected with the late riot was resumed yester day before Magistrates Eanapaux and Do Large. Rife tzSird, colored, was committed to jaii to await trial before the State Court for committing an assault and battery, and also fyr sssauli ing an officer. Mr. Schwing gave bond to appear before the aame court, to answer tbe charge of assault writh a deadly weupon. The investigation will be continued until the affair is thoroughly sifted. Tho Augusta Chronicle f Sunday says : / We are ioformed thai a detaobmont or-^ pet-bagger Scott's militia was in Hamburg Friday night, on duty at the eod of the bridge. The cause of this warlike display we did not learn, but rumor has it that a raid of Georeia Ku-Klux was anticipated. Wo have never seen B l,v Ku-KLux but we have the right material here in Richmond to regulate Mr. Scoot's ragamuffins it they ever got on Georgia soil. They might be inducrJ to take Ham burg within their jurisdiction in case of neces sity, so that if the valiant militia study their own Barety they will havo to behave them selves while, in this vicinity. The Savannah Base Ballots.?Alluding to tbe invitation to the Savannah base ball is is to make another visit to Charleston, tho Savan nah Advertiser says : Wo hardly think they will bo able to respond to another invitation from their friends, the ' Carolinas." at least immediately. It is quite an undertaking to get together the entire ume for a two days' holiday, and on 110 last visit the Savannahs were deprived of tbe services of two of their best players at the last moment. We can assure the "Carolinas" that nothing whioh Ihey could do on any future occasion can increase the high esteem and cordial friendship felt for them by our entire club. Bbeak on the Columbia and Augusta Ratlboad.?The late heavy rains caused a sud den riBe in the small streams in the neighbor hood of tho Bath Paper Mills, and a oulvert on the Columbia and Augusta Railroad was blown np by tha force of the water, and a large por tion of the road bed washed away. Fortu nately the tracks of the Columbia and Augusta and the.South Carolina Railroads run parallel at this point, and the passengers and baggage by the former are transferred to the latter at Granitevillo. The wash is quite large, and it will probably be ten days to two weeks before the road oan be put in running order. Litrle Bubolajrs.?Yesterday morning the detectives arrested a mulatto and a negro boy ?neither over twelve years of age?upon tbe ohaige of burglary. The negro boy confessed that upon Friday night he, by means of a step ladder procured and placed in position by the mulatto boy, forcibly entered the store of Messrs. Geo. W. Stronb & Co., No. 277 King street, and forced open the money drawer and stole a small sum of money. Early Sunday morning they, by the same means, entered tbe confectionery store of Mr. Kinsman, adjoining tbe store above mention ed.' While they were attempting to open the money drawer here the -watchman came up and sucoeeded in arresting the little negro. He "peaobed" and caused tbe arrest of his ac complice. . : They are both confined at the detective of fioe. A long piece of plank, whioh they used to force open doors, was captured with them. _? j A Man-Haieb?Meat Tbeachebous Animals. Yesterday afternoon a negro woman named Betsy Holland, about Thirty years -of age, was arraigned before Justice Maokey, charged with committing i murderous assault upon John Jones, colored. It appears that John believed with Thacke ray that each separate soul of us in an island in the great ocean of life, and looked for a fel low isle willing to help build a causeway which should bind his and said isle together forever. Believing that Betsy was the other isle and marriage to be the causeway that would ac complish this desirable object, he mado up to Betsy, who, not liking to be sought after, bo informed John. But John, like other men, only valuing those prizes whioh require some labor to secure, persisted in his designs upon her hand. Yesterday afternoon, after a little quarrel, and while John was standing with his back to her, she seized a large fork and en deavored to impale him, bnt he fled she pur suing. On the way she seized a rake and struck bun a severe blow on the forehead, breaking the flesh and inflicting a very painful wound. John ran into the bouse, when she followed and made another assault upon him with a knife. He then dodged and ran to ward the kitchen, when she seized a pot of soup and threw it over him. He then went to the pump to wash bis wound, and was again assaulted by the fiend. While before the Magistrate, Betsy said that she "didn't have any use for men; they was treacherous animals; I never did like 'em, and I don't see why they keep a court in'of mo." In default of bail in the sum of $300 to appear for trial, she was -committed to jail. While on her way there in charge of a constable, she met John, whereupon she-grabbed a stick and went for him, but he was fortunate enough to l?de the olntches of the she-devil. Cbvkbs.?The closing exeroises of the paro chial school of the African M. E. Church, un der the direction of R. H. Cain, took place in Liberty Ball yesterday. Daddy Cain expresses the opinion in the Missionary Record that it ta not at all strange that the Mayor should be "powerless" to quell a riot, "surrounded as he has been, and still is, with all the deadheads of the Republican party to bear up, and with a Oopeerhoad in his bosom ?tinging htm to desto, while his h fe is banging on a slender thread of political hemp." Tbe Lieutenant of the Detective force states that be, ne t tbe Mayor, appointed the officers of his force?the Mayor only confirmed tbe appointments. The Savannah Advertiser says that the pres ence ot mosquitoes there is as "fully demoral izing1 to one%j analytioa) sequenoe of ideas as the negroes of Charleston to good clothes and good temner.'? Tbe sergeant who was shot at Castle Pinok ney Haturdev. was still in a most critioal con dition laut evening. The silver sugar bowl, raffled for at Mr. Mr. Drake's auction room, on Friday night last, was won by Mr. Dowlmg. It was raffled for the bem-flt of tbe female orphans ander tbe care of the Si&ters of Mercy. * Daddy Cain commences a long editorial, de? nonnoing the late riot* and assertiwsathat the mass of the colored people had nothing to do with it and condemn all such proceedings, with this sentence : . -'This commun! y has been shocked with transaction? whioh causes tbe blush, o rise m tbe f toe of every law-abid ing citizen," the colored people should read the editorial ,,.
