Twelve months ago a sable individual, who rejoices in the cognomen of Thomas An? derson, wooed and won a damsel of hie raoe and the; were duly married. A abort time since a pledge of their mutual affection waa aentto them, and tbe confiding wife thought that ..Life's golden bells would always tinkle sweet And merry music make about their feet," Aa they then appeared to be doing. A day or two si ace she was rudely awakened from her dream of happiness by a report that her husband, who had apparently been all de? votion, was engaged to a young gi il, to whom h 3 was to be married Thursday night, night before teat. Learning that Rev. Mr. Lewie, pastor f one of the colored cherch?e of the city, had been reqneeted to perform he marriage ceremony, ehe called upon him Thursday morning, and asked him if the report was true, statiog that Thomas was her husband, in proof of which she showed the marriage certificate. He re? plied that his services had been engaged to perform the ceremony for the parties mention? ed at eight o'clook. He then told her to come before the time appointed, and he would place her in the room adjoining the ono in which tho ceremony waa to be performed, and at the gro? per time she could confront her unfaithful lord and master. She came and was duly puted, and there re? mained not long before In marched' her hu?-' band, on his arm leaning a sable damsel wuh! a profusion of orange blossoms and brid il veil which, contrasted with ber dark akin, remind? ed one of snowflakes in a coil yard. Follow-; tog tue "happy coaple" were tbe waiters, four cf either sex, gorgeously gotten np. Hr. Lewis, before proceeding with the cere? monies, asked the groom if he had any children? ,!One," he replied. .'Where ia your wife?": Anderson suspecting that his interrogator! knew all about his faithless conduct, replied that she was living, and was m the city. Ibis admission, of course, created not a little sen? sation, and the blooming brides corset, No. I 83, was seen io heave as if her "heart was a ? busting;" bat th3 whole party was suddenly1 thrown into the wildest disorder by the ap? pearance of the injured wife. The husband turned all colors at once, bat in a moment be? came oompoeed, and enied that the woman: was bis wife. The certificate of marriage-a troubtosorne document to allman who want to be Hormona without' li vin? in Utan--waa shown him, and he finally acknowledged that he had legally married the woman who stood before him and entreated him to co me to her and their child bat he refused to return, and' after receiving a lecture from the minister for his base conduct, retired with the woman whom he had brought to enter into the mar? riage state with bim. The wife consulted Justice Mackey in re? gard, to the afftir, desiring to know-if the law would not make her husband leave the woman, he had taken np with, and return to his wife. As we learn, Anderson is in trouble general IT; he does not wish to return to his wife, nor does he wish to continue his engagement with, his would-be bride; bat she won't let him go-' and "what mu?t a poor married man do?" ega a ? ' EMP?RTET? BIOT OEEDISTO ISLAND. Neaj roes Attempt to Lynch a HagTstrnte -The Inhabitants Frightened-They hare Sent to' the City tor Police to ' Proteet Them. Tn NEWS learns that a serious disturbance ooaorred on Eheto Island day belora yester? day, and at one time it was feared that blood would be freely shed. Aa reported, Mi cia tra to Christy a North? erner, oa Tuesday issued a warrant for the ar? rest of a negro. He was arrested. During the night he managed to .escape, ol which, however, the negro o a were not informed. They were vary mach mee OB ed when they heard of the arrest, and Thursday morning a large wimber, variously ?tinrated at from two to fl ve hundred, assembled in the vicinity '. of the magistrate's office and oonduoted thetasetres in av most riotous manner. ? They ! had ropes with them and some loudly clamored for the magistrate, threatening to hang him. The conduct of tho mob waa so violent that all af the women and children were sent ont of the neighborhood. For four or five h JOTS the nagioas renamed about tho place and would allow no passing to and fro of the whites. Several gentlemen endeavored to ieason with them, bat it bsd no effect whatever, and they only became quiet whoa they were informed that the prisoner had escaped. After this in? formation was generally circulated the crowd began to disperse, and when the parties who "brought the news to the city left the island, order had been restored. No one was injured, tot if the prisoner bad not escaped the magis? trate would doubtless have been hang by the mob. It is farther reported that the negroes fre? quently cried oat that there was no other law but that of the Union League; that the \ ar of races had began. The people there have Bent to the city for officers to coma to the island and arrest the ringleaders, as they do not reel safe ou the island while they are at large. We have given the above just ns some of tbe excited ones reported it. Others who came over in the same boat state that the affair is much exaggerated ; that the only one who bad and bas reason to fear violence is the magis? trate._ In BIGHT RSV. BUB OP PEBSIOO will preach to-morrow evening at the Cathedral Chapel. We hear that this learned and eloquent prelate will shortly leave this city, preparatory to bia departir? for Europe to attend the (Eoamenical Council, lt is also reported that st the last Provincial Conned, held in Baltimore, Bishop P?rsico was proposed for tho Diocese of Flori? da, and that un his return from Borne he will take possession of his new See. If this report be correct, his sermon t '-morrow evening may oe regarded at a formal separation from this diocese-a separation which will be doeply and sincerely regretted, not only by the Cathe? dral congregation, bat by all the Catholics or this o ty, who will certainly embrace this op? portunity to testify to bim the high esteem and affection in which he is deservedly held by them. THE Duo WITED COLORED BOY_Yesterday Coroner Whiting held an inquest over the body of Joseph Dunham, whose death by drowning at the Charleston and Savannah Railroad de? pot, on Thursday afternoon, was mentioned in THE NEWS of yesterday. The testimony showed that the boy in diving had stuck bis head in tbe mad, from which he could not ex? tricate himself; and it was with difficulty that his comoanions could pull bim out. DISORDERLY NKOBOKS-ft, NSOBO WOMAN A 8 I 8ATJLTRD BY NEGROES, WHO ALSO THREATEN TO J BREAK INTO A CITIZEN'S HOUSE.- For some time psst a Bamber of negro men sod women bare been io the habit of collecting every night at the foot of Broad-street, beating drums, dancing, singing and whooping. This was very annoying to the citizens, but of late the negroes have been acting in a most disor? derly and indecent manner, and using the vilest and most profane language. To suob an ex? tent has this been carried that the citizens in that section cannot sit in their porches or al their windon for fear ot witnessing some of the disgusting actions and hearing the foal laBguage of the assembled negroes, who, in? stead of ceasing when remonstrated with, have abused those remonstrating. Night before last the negro cook of one of the ciuznns m that neigbborbood went out on business, but was set upon by ibe negro men aud chased to bf r employers house, and some of them attempted to go into the yard to take the woman out. Her -screams aroused her employer, who secured his pistol and told the negroes to go away; that if they did not he wonld have to shoot them. I amediately a largo crowd of negro men and women collec? ted around the house, and poured a perfect torrent of 'abase upon the gentleman, and threatented to break into the I'ouse and aka nie pistol away. Knowing that to fire would certainly result in injury to his family and to himself, the gentleman wisely refrained from using his weapon. Something should be done at once to check thee? negroes and to protect the citizens from insult and annoyance. BUSINESS NOTICES.
