RAILROAD MEE TINO. -A meeting of railroad -presidents and superintendents on the inland line from Washington to New Orleans will bo held in Columbia, on the 15th instant, to con? sider an entire chantre and material redaction in the through schedule. The meeting was suggested by Colonel Wm. Johnston, of the Charlotte and South Carolina Road. THT ROW AT MOUNT PLEASANT.-Cate Mon .day night and early yesterday morning there were numerous reports about a row having ooeurred at Mount Pleasant Monday after? noon - most of the reports being that two little coys had fought in the sand till only little bits of thoir flesh were left, on which the sand fiddlers held high carnival, and two men were mor? tally and any number slightly wounded. Among those reported to be mortally wounded -was Mr. P. Smith, proprietor of the Mount Pleasant House. An investigation into the affair revealed that two boys bad fought until their jackets dropped to nieces; and a row oc? curred, daring which Mr. Smith received a stab in the neck, which did not in the least in? terfere with bis dattes. Stauland and Bevin were declared elected. SUPERINTENDENT PUB LIO CEMETERY. The candidates were J. D. Browne (the present incumbent,) D. Buhre and J. W. Griffin. A ballot being taken, J. D. Browne was de? clared elected, ono vote being cast for Tt J. Mackey and D. T. Corbin. CITY PHYSICIANS. There are four City Physicians, and tho candidates were: Dr. T. Grange Simons, Dr. B F. Shier, Dr. E. H. Kellers, Dr. J. Som? ers Buist, Dr. S. S. Lookwood, R. Lobby, Jr., Thomas S. Grirnke, aad J. W. Angel. Alderman E. W. M. Mackey nominated Dr. B. A. Bosemon, colored, and L. F. There are six Inspectors of Lumber, and thor? were the following candidates : S. P. Bennett, J. G. Rentiers, C. M. Besseheu, C. S. Jenkins, Wm. Burke, colored G. Howard, col? ored, A. G. Mackey, J. C. Saltus, R. W, Perry, J. H. Brawleigh, E. A. Chunpley, J. C. Guy? ton and Allen Thompson. The ballot resulted in the election of Bennett, Rentiers, Besse lieu, Jenkins, Burke and Field. One vote was cast for "Boston Pillsbury." There was a curious display of caucus disci? plino in this election. Only five inspectors were elected on the first ballot, and a second was ordered to fill the vaoancy. Wire pulling at once began. Alderman E. W. M. Mackey went to Small, a ooloied Alderman, and per? suaded bim to take a new ballot. Holloway, another colored Alderman, saw this manouvre and called out to Alderman Collins, "Look out after him." Collins saw what was going on, took the Mackey tioket from Small, and gave him the regular canoua ticket. Small smiled. He didn't care who he voted for. POBTW ABDENS. The candidates for Portwardens, of whom there are five, were Wm. Bird, Timothy John? son, Geo. O'Neill, James W. Anderson, J. C. Holloway, odored, (sonof the "Alderman,") Charles Ka nap aux, J. D. Mushiogton, J. B. Plummeau, B. Forrest, J. B. Maxwell, T. W. Geraghty, and N. Fields. The following were cleo te 3 : Bird, Johnson, O'Neill, Anderson, colored, and Holloway, colored. The Hon. D. T. Corbin received one vote. CITY SHERIFF. For this office there were the following can? didates : George Addison, D. T. Corbin, and L. Bunch. Before the vote was taken, Alder? man T. J. Mackey arose, and, with ineffable coolness, said: Mr. Mayor, I am not pledged to vote for any one, and if there is any Alderman who has a son that he wants voted for, I will do it with pleasure. Only three sons of Aldermen have been so far elected. [Laughter.] Holloway, colored. We will take the gentle? man at hts word on so ne future occasion. Alderman Mackey. About one half of the street lamps are, we believe, never used, and an arrangement could doubtless he made to have these regularly lighted at an ex? pense which would be small ino caparison with the additional comtort and security given to our oitizons. While the tamps are lit burglars do not care to prowl about, the streets become in evory way more safe, and the pol co have a better opportunity of doing their duty.
