THE STATS TAT BB.-The Clarendon Px eas learns that many persons in different parts of the State haye determined, not to pay the State tax, and that it is to be made a question in the courte, and to be carried, if necessary, to the Supreme Court of tbe United States, on tbs ground that it is illegal imposition, even ac cording to the present constitution and laws of South Carolina, as framed, passed and adopted by the Radicals themselves. QUEER Doraos.-T h e Columbus Enquirer says that upon a shipment of one hundred and ninety-three bales ef cotton from that city to Savannah, there was a loss in weight of 12,891 pounds, which, at thirty cents per pound, amounted to a loss to the Columbus shipper of $3,844 20. The Savannah News says: "It is very evident that such a discrepancy could only result from one of tnt os causes-over weights in Columbus, plunder of the cotton while in transito, or short weights in Savan? nah. Twelve thousand eight hundred pounds difference in the Co ambus and Savannah weights is too much to allow for shrinkage. So large a margin of uncertainty in the transaction of business is very unsatisfactory, and when it comes to be established that cotton loses from ten to twenty per cent, insweight in transporta? tion from Columbus to Savannah, it is reason ble to suppose that shippers from the interior will endeavor to And some other ou tport.'
