The chief blemish of the work is the uniform bitterness of tone which marks every reference of the author towards bis late antagonists. Indeed, although the people whom be championed so effectively on the high seas will be indulgent oritioa of tho brave Admiral's book, it must be said that had he confined himself more strictly to the facts be narrates and tndulred a little less liberally in comment, it would have added much to the historical value, to say nothing of the good taste of the memoirs which he has given us.
