Goon NEWS FOB DBT PEOPLE.-Under the energetic supervision of Alderman Potter, the chairman of the Committee on Streets, the work on the various pnbho cisterns has been completed. On examination of the Spring - street cistern only six inches of waler were found, owing, it is supposed, to a cracking of the conductors. That cistern will, therefore, not be opened at present. Lr Basel and Glebe streets good, substantial pomps hare been erected over the cisterns, and those reservoirs will now be open to the public. The keys to the former will bs found at the stores of Messrs Mc Loy A Bice and A. H. Hayden, and of the latter at the houses im? mediately north of Grace Church, in Glebe street, on the east and west sides. A pump is being erected near the corner of Smith and Beaufain streets, wbicb will give a good supply of excellent pomp water to the dwellers in that vicinity. These improve? ments are timely, and will confer great benefit upon our citizens. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, be was born in 1325, and educated in his native State. He is a son of Dr. Irving, a gentleman well known in literary circles. D e lane ld, a passenger on the steamship Mississippi on her passage from Bio de Janeiro for Nev York, and who ar rived here on the British bark Ansdell from Martinique, for the f ollowing report ot the ac? cident: . Ten horus afterwards, half-past three o'clock Wednesday morning, 12th, she streck a reef, called Pinsonelle, on the east side of the Is? land of Martinique; all sall set and going at foll speed; band about four miles off on the port side. Sent Mr. James B. Bond ashore for assistance, which came on the next day. The French steamer Guyane and the French man-of-war Aotreron, took all the passengers and part of the cargo of the ship. The stores, sails, Ac, were pat on board the Actreron. The Mississippi had on board 16,000 bags coffee, of wbich abo discharged 1500 at Para: took on board one hundred cases robber, and left Para Friday evening, 7th, at eight o'clock. The Bteamer Guyane took all the passengers to Fort de France. Steamer Aotreron still wiitin? by the wreck to take orT the crew ard whatever there is of value on board, The Mis? sissippi is a total wreck and going to pieces fast. They are saving all they can in the shape of sails, engineer's stores, brass works, Ac. The amount of cargo saved, as far as known, was five hundred bags of coffee by the Guyane, and 450 bags by three small vessels. Some 1300 bags were thrown overboard.
