DBOWNED.-The body of a white boy, appa? rently fi.teen years old, floated up to Union wharf with the tide yesterday at three P. M. It was made fast to the wharf by Daniel Harris, a white man, who discovered it, and information of the fact lodged at the Guardhouse. Coroner Whiting held sin inquest and the verdict was death by drowning. Beyond the name, "J. Miller, No. 2," on his shirt, there were no traces by which he could be identified. Ko one knew bim. GBAU'S GRAND GERMAN OPERA, which had been expected here in time to open on Tuesday even? ing, will arrive on the afternoon train of that day," and, consequently, will not be able to perfect all the ar? rangements for its first appearance before Wednesday ?vening. The seaton will open on that occasion with Gounod's opera of Faust, and we are assured that .the company, in its general strength, and especially in Ihe fullness of its orchestra and chorus, far purpasses any that has yet visited Charleston. SEIZURE OF LACE GOODS BY THE OFFICERS or CUSTOMS.-During the last week printed circu? lars wore distributed through the olty, announcing to the community that a company of English lace makers bad arrived here for the purpose of opening an establishment for the manufacture and repairing of lace goods of every description, and that Mr. and Mrs. John Kermode were the agents of the associa? tion. SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVEBSABY.-UNITABIAN CHURCH.-The Unitarian Church Sunday School celebrate! its anniversary, on Saturday, by a picnic and very interesting exercises, at Payne's r ann in the suburbs. The day was fine, and there was a very full gathering of teachers, scholars, parents and frlonds, numbering in all about two hundred. The exercises began at 12 M., and were orened with a prayer by the Rev. Mr. Cutler, pasior of the church. The programme included singing and speaking. The former, uuder tho conduct of S. W. Fisher, Esq., was touching and harmonious. Little Sammy limes, a mere Lilliput, acquitted himself so creditably that he had to repeat hi ? "selections" no less than four times. The di ?logue "Violet, "by alaster Porcher and little Miss Jones, was beautiful? ly rendered. The hero of the occasion, however, was Geo. A. Locke, Jr., not over three years old, and scarcely able to talk ; yet he managed to get bravely through bis bilef address. Very happy ad? dresses were made by S. W. Fisher and George E. Gibbon, Esqs., and also ly the Kev. Mr. Cutler. Tho benediction was succeeded by a bountiful repast, which was partaken of by the children and others with the utmost satisfaction. A more agreeable day in the woods has seldom been spent.
