Corn was badly hurt ten days ago; the same may be said of cotton that was up. Jim Morris, white, lying at Ungth drunk, in the street. Fined $10. A number of goats were taken up on the streets and forfeited. SPBING-S?HEET METHOPIST CHUCH_Tbis church, corner of Coming and Spring' streets, built a few years before the war, was in a prosperous con? dition, and bidding fair to become more so, when, upon the occupation of the city by the United State troops, the edifice came into thc possession of the representatives of the Northern Methodist Church, who kept it ior several years, and finally only vacated it, when piid to do so by tho bona fide owners-the present congregation. The church has ever since been badly out of repair. The members being too poor to undertake the task, tt e pastor. Rev. J B. Pickett, is now sending ont circulars to tbe benevo? lent in our city, asking for help. Tbe cauce is worthy, and we hope will meet with all the support lt deserves. MES. O'JDONOVAN Ross A. -Tbis young and ac? complished lady proposes to give a reading in our city on some evening next week, of articles of her own composition, and from the most pop? hr au? thors of the age. She is the wife of Mr. O'Donovan Rosea, a distinguished Irishman, who became a citi? zen of the United States and afterwards returned to his native country and established a newspaper tn Dublin in 1865, the revolutionary tendencies of which made it a constant object ot suspicion to th? British Government. At last a sudden descent WJS made .upon the establishment by the police, and the entire editorial ataff arrested ard imprisoned. Rossa lay in prison until the end of the year, and was finaUy tried bf a mixed jury because be was on American citizen, found guilty and sentenced"to imprisonment for Ufa at Chatham, England, where bia wife is not ? allowed to communicate with bira, and she has not heard from bim for about two years. Mrs. Rossa is laboring to support ber family and to raise means to secure a sew trial, whloh abo hopes to obtain before tba House of Lords. The informality of his trial, and the cruel hardship oz*?is sentence, have encour? aged bis wifs, who ia thoroughly devoted to him, to make an effort to obtain a new trial bj means cf a writ of error, which will bring the matter before the House of Lords. She ls womanly, unassuming, and -enttrerr free from stage art, and a lady in language and bearing.
