excellent steamer Emilie, so well known in the
Georgetown trade, bas bad a change of Commanders,
and will in future bo in charge of Capt. P. C. Lewis,
Captain Isaac Da\is, who has been in her, having
disposed of his interest in the steamer to the former
gentleman._
THE NEW BEET AND CLUB OP THE POLICE.
The police arc soon to be equipped with an enamelled
leather belt, with a pocket for the new rosewood
club. The belt ls adorned with a fancy circular
silver-plated clasp, with the word "Police" hi laised
letters. They are expected to bo dressed in this new
insignia by the 27th instant, the day of tho grand an?
nual parade. They may also thea appear in tho new
Bummer uniform.
SENDING CUT THE Kxanx WATCH-The sys?
tem of sending out tbe night watch from thc Guard?
house ls now conducted on the New York plan. Tho
watch is formed and is marched at tho front of tbe
sergeant's o ill .'<', where tho roster is oalled and tho
men are assigned to their posts. As thoy are noti?
fied where they will be stationed tbey move off with
a tick of tho rat.le. Tho rest of the watch then re?
turn to their quarters to await their turn of duty.
THE EvKNlsa BrLLEHN.-Tho first number
of this miniature evening paper was issued yesterday.
It is intended for gratuitous citculation, and will
rely for support upon advertising business. The
publisher is Mr. J. W. McMillan, ol Hayne-street.

AN ESCAPED PBISONBB CAPTURED. -Some tima
ago. Samuel O?r. colored, was sentenced to impris?
onment in tho Iioueo of Correction. Ho was sent to
work on tbe drains, aud while there refused to come
out. After the hands had waited some time, md
finding that Orr did not come out, they left the
drain. During the night barn came out, and fled to
parts unknown. He had skilfully eluded detection
for some time, but on yesterday was brought to
grief, and was resentenced to an additional impris?
onment.

premises, in violation of law, had to forfeit his

ROBBERY ON THE STEAMER PILOT BOY.-Oa
several occasions robberies have been committed on
board of this boat, and no traces could be found of
the thief. On her last trip from Savannah to
Charleston, Mr. Mills, a passenger, was robbed of
Jewelry und other valuables. Information was lodg?
ed at the police station and Officer Heed was put on
the scent, and succeeded in arresting Thomas Mor?
rison and Hase Williams, two firemen aboard. At
first they denied all complicity iq tho platter, but
afterwards owned up, and the articles piompily
turned over the owner.

ROBBERY.-Rollo Caulfield, better known as
the "Soldiers' Friend," succeeded, on Saturday
night in seducing one Francis Lascke into her house
in Ball-street, when, through the agency of Diana,
:a colored ghi, and Wm. H. Stone, a white accom?
plice, she fleeced him ont of ?ix hundred and thirty
dolWr, which she transferred to the colored girl,
who gave it to the accomplice, who Immediately
made tracks up the "tate road and bm led the money
under sn old ti ee near Peyton's Bridge. Lascke bad
the parries arrested, and when io tbe cell at the
Guardhouse it leaked cut where the plunder bad
been hidden. The money has been recovered and
the partios turned over to a magistrate for prosecu?
tion. This is the second time that a similar rob?

M'lle Durand ls already a great favorito with our
citizens. As a Charlestonian she has a cl im upon
us, and as a singer she has a chaim which we shall
not soon tercet. We hope then that at her benefit
to-night every scat will be taken, and that the fair
prima donna will long havo occasion to remember
her first professional visit to Charleston.
OBPQANS' ENTERTAINMENT.-An entertain?
ment is to be given, to commence on tho 26th and
conclude on the 28th instant, for the benefit of the
male orphans of the Cannon-atreet asylum. The
finances of tbis institution are on the brink of ex?
haustion, and some step is absolutely necessary to
save the orphans from want. The Kev. Father
Schachte, who has J ust recovered from a severe ill
noss, has undertaken to manage the matter, and
will, no doubt, safely carry the programme through.
It will be a refreshment ard gift entertainment, and
will bo conducted at the asylum.
REPORT?ES' CRUMBS-The Rev. Father Ryan
(Molen) will visit our city about three weeks hence.

order, his carly manhood was consecrated to the
service of Christ; and when called by the Spirit of

time for ordination bi8 pioty ripened, and the sense
of responsibility increased. With a single desire to
glorify Christ, at d a tender love for tho souls for
whom Hs shed His blood, worldly aspirations were
laid upon .Che altar ol the Cross, and to fulfill his
course, and the Minis ry which he had received of
the Lord Jesus, was the wi h ol' bis heart. In the
pariah in which he served, he sought to pcrtorm
witb efficiency the pastoral work, while he faithfully
proclaimed the doctrines of grace; end fondly is his
memory cherished by a bereaved flock.
In the family he w >s cherished with the fondest
love, and his removal has left a blank not to be
filled. But lilith points those who mourn beyond
the grave, and we see him entered into rest. 1 he

and the baviour--?hom he loved-bas taken him to
himself.
