THE CHARLESTON PRIMA DONNA.-M'lle Durand, the young prima donna, who m akes her first appearance in this city at tho Brignoll concert to-night, ia a nat;vo of CharloBtou, and, pleased as we arc to recognize and reward talent, which we may claim in some sort as our own, we are suro that she will receive a warm and even enthusiastic greeting. As a vocalist, M'lle Durand is said to have but few superiors on the American lyric stage, and the applause which has so tar greeted her throughout her Southern tour, will certainly be awarded ber in this her native city. OUR FIR-MEN VISITORS.-Tho Columbia Phoenix nays that the Palmetto Fire Company of that city, who are to visit Charleston with Qhy-two mem? bers at the approaching anniversary, are actively fretting ready for the friendly contest. The Phoenix adds: We warn tho Charleston boys tbat in their trial of skill they will meet in our firemen champions worthy of their best efforts. CHANGE OF SCHEDULE ON THH SOUTH CAROLINA SAILBOAT).-On and ofter Sunday, the 11th inst, the schedule of tho Bonth Carolina Railroad will be slightly changed, though tho hours of departure from Charleston still remain the samo. The only material gain ls on the Augusta branch, the morning train arriving at that point one hour eather than usual. The Summerville train will hereaiter leave the city at 3:33 P. M., arriving at Summerville at 5:00 P.M. Tho Camden and Columbia train will connect at Ringville with both up and down day passenger trains on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. With the exception of a few minutes' difference in thc time of arrival and departure of the different trains, the schedule is the earae as that adopted last february. ROBBERY AND CAPTUBE OF THE PERPETRA? TORS.-On tho 30th of March last, thu promises of Dr. R. J. Muirhcal, Mount Pleasant,- were myste? riously robbed of $603in greenbacks, nineteen sove? reigns, a lot of gold and silver, and some old State bills. No clue whatever was had to the perpetrators of the deed, when the information was left at the de tee live office in this city, whoso officers, Coates, Reed and Nip -on, have been unremitting in their endeavors to bring the rogues to grief. Yesterday they succeeded in ob tal ning information that led to the capture of Joe Glover and Sarah, his dulcinea, and Phillis, his wife, in the suburbs. 8arah, it was ascertained, committed the robbery at the instiga? tion of Joe, from whom $550 tn currency and a lot of gold and silver were recovered. The parties are all in limbo, and will get their deserts. COLUMBIA AND AUGUSTA RAILROAD.-Below we give a copy ol tho petition which Colonel William Johnston, President of the Columbia and Augusta Railroad Company, presented to the City Council of Augusta on Thursday night. The petition says: The track ol the Columbia and Augusta railroad is expected to belaid to the base ot Schultz's bill, where it is ascended by the Beech Island road, a point lesa than a mile from your city, within the next six weeks. At this point a temporary depot will be established, until the bridge can be construot ed across the Savannah River, for the purpose of re? ceiving and delivering freights and passengers. In consideration of the limited resources of the compa? ny and the increased commercial facilities thus af? forded to the City of augusta, the Columbia and Augusta Railroad Company respectfully a k that your honorable body grant a ires transit to such car? riages, omnibuses, drays and wagons as may be necessary to do the transportation between the city and said temporary depot un M the completion of the bridge across the river. Augustus Mariano, colored, for a breach of the peace, was turned over to a magistrate. Three goats found going at large contrary to ordi? nance were forfeited. Z. The annual meeting of the stockholders of the GraniteviUe Manufacturing Company will be held in Granlteville on the 23d instant. There are several professional colored beggars on tbe streets and around the hotels that are somewhat annoying. A number of storekeepers were before the Mayor yesterday for keeping powder on their premises in a .greater quantity than allowed by ordinance. Some were fined. The Miyor's Court-room in the guardhouse pre sente quite a contrast to its unimproved condition of yore. Policemen will be supplied to any churches need? ing them during servioe on Sundays and week day nights. The stockholders of the Charlotte and South Car? olina Railroad meet in Columbia on the 20th. Dr. Smith is now in Charleston to solicit aid for Wofford College, arid we hone he will meet with en? couraging success. This institution, it will be re? membered, lost nearly the whole of its endowment by the war, and the financial ruin that followed in its train; and now is confined for the support of its professors to the tuition fees and tho contributions of the good and liberal of the Slate. The tuition fees themselves are inadequate, the more so, as many in? digent young men receive their education there with? out cost. There are now about one hundred and twenty BtudentB there, many of them studying for the ministry. Wofford College' baa been open all through the war and since. To do this, the faculty, good men and true, have had to suttor great priva? tions, borne np no doubt with the hope that a better day was dawning. The country is now beginning to be somewhat more prosperous, and these patient and deserving men now havo requested Dr. White? foord Smith to present their claim before our com? munity, and hope for a favorable consideration of the samo. BUIST.-At a meeting of'tho Young America Fire Engine Company, held some time since, a resolu? tion was adopted for the appointment of a commit? tee to procuro a t-Uitablo testimonial to be presented to Major GI. L. Buist, aa a tangible proof of the esti? mation in which he was held by the members. The committee performed the duty entrusted to them, and on Thursday evening waited on .Major Buist at his residence, taking bim somewhat by surprise. Orders of reference in the case of Charles W. Rawlinson and A. M. Hunt, were signed under seal of the court to Registrar Jaeger. Special referee DeTreville, in the case of Joseph Purcell, reported the amount of principal and interest due S. Lord, Jr , in his own right, and as executor and others 'inc assignee ex? cepted to the report oh the ground that it did not carry interest after adjudication in bankruptcy. The exception waa overruled and the report confirmed. D. St. P. Dubose and Samuel J. Gaillard were finally discharged lu bankruptcy. In Admiralty.-It waa ordered that E. J. Black, the purchaser of the ship Montgomery, show cause on the 20th inst., why he did not obey the d^oree of the court on the 2d inst., and why he should not be attached for contempt in the premises.
