THE LATE FROST.-The Marion Crescent says: "Justas we expressed our fears last week, Jack Frost has made a savage swoop upon our joung corn an i carly garden vegetables, and they are gone. Irish potatoes, beans and early tomatoes are all cut down. Some of the planters have plmted cotton, but wc are glad to say that nono was up. We have not cs yet found out to what extent injury has been dono to the fruit, but suspect it is badly hurt." INCENDIARY FIRS UP THE ROAD.-About 12 o'clock on Tuesday morning a shed.butcher-pen and other outbuildings on the main ro id, near the Mag? nolia Cemetery, wera set on fire by some unknown person. There was no one on the prom?tes at the time, and every building wes destroyed. A few bales of hay and some agricultural implements were also burnt. The property waa owned by Mr. D. Mc S wi a ey, and was insured lor $8to, which will only cover a portion of the loss. This is the second fire that has occurred ie the same vicinity. THE MILLS HOUSE.-It is reported that a few days ago a couple of weahhy Western gentlemen came to Charleston, and tried to negotiate for a ten years' lease of this com modi tue building. It was their purpose to refurnish lt in elegant sty lei and Jteep it ea a par with the beast hotels in thc United States. From some cause the negotiation fell through, and it is even said that the question of the .ownership of the hotel will be thrown into a Court of Equity. We hope that this report ls without foundation. The Mills House, if possible, should he opened at once. THE 'LAZARETTO,-Tho new Lazaretto or Hospital building, to be put up on Morris Island, Will be seventy-five feet long, twenty feet wide, and twelve feet in height, Inside. It will be substanti? ally built, and there will be water cisterns under? neath the building. The house for the ate ward and nurses will be thirteen feet by sixteen feet, and two stories high. A similar building to thia labt will be put up at Fort Johnson, or on Sullivan's Island, at one of which places the quarantine station will be. Dr. Lobby, the health officer, has the matter in charge and will begin work as soon aa the plana are approved by the, Dutborities. 'SURVIVORS' ASSOCIATION.-Tbe attention ef the members of thia society is specially called to the advertisement, which appears in thia morning's NEWS, announcing a meeting to be held thia eve? ning.
