THE THEATRE.-The number of delays in
opening the th at-o have boon discouraging to all
concerned. The failure of Mr. Templeton's troupe
to perform la-t night was occasioned by the general
sea sickness of the stresses, the result of a storm
at sea, which they uxperiencsd on their voyage from
New York. They h id a rehearsal yesterday after?
noon, however, and Mr. Templeton announces that
they will perform this evening.

THE SOUTH CAROLINA INSTITUTE.-The Board
of Directors of the South Carolina Institute meet
this evening, at 7 o'clock, at No. 23 Broad-street, as
we leam, to consider a proposal to build a hah, by a
number ot bu-inosa moa and g ntlemcn, on tho lot
where the old theatres stood, on Meeting-strcet, ari
which ls owned by the Institute. Such a hall, ai it
ls presumed will bo erected ?rom this movement,
will not only be an ornament to that part of the city,
but for operatic and other public exhloirions, has
become a necessity to our community. It will, if
undertaken, be managed by gentlemen of honor,
position and experience.

first namber of tbis now weekly journal, which is
intended to be devoted to popular t urrent literature,
the great interests of sooiety. of popular science and

chapters of Victor Hugo'a new romance. L'homme
