[FOB THE WEEK ENDINO THURSDAY, MARCH 26.]
COTTON.-This article, during meet of the
week just closed, was marked by a steady dullness
and Inactivity, caused mainly by theunsatisfaotcry
condition of the English cotton goods market and
the indisposition of manufacturers to purchase more
than waa necessary fer immediate demands at the
prevailing figures. Notwithstanding the almost un
qualified depression which existed, the staple has
been so far strengthened by the heavy falling on" in
receipts that Liverpool has been steady during much
of the week at lid, stiffening to 12 %d; the New
Yotk market has been at 28%@28%o, hardening to
28%@29c; and in this market the decline was only
about ;?@%c HR lb, which has since boen recover?
ed, and unless circumstances are developed of a
more unsatisfactory character, it is herdiy to be sup?
posed that any very important f ill in prices will
take place during the present crop season, in the face
of the very limited supplies of the raw material to
be expected from this country. The following is a
statement of the supplies ashore and afloit which is
probably nearly correct :

The arrivals for the week have been light, par?
ticularly of sea hilands, which have almost ceased to
come forward, and were 10 baga of sea islands and
Floridas and 9163 bales of uplands, against 84 bags
of 8<>a islands and Floridas and 3489 bales of up?
lands the week before, and 68 bags of sea islands
and Floridas and 8547 bales of uplands for the week
last year. The receipts have been from the follow?

low middling, 20%; middling, 27@27%, and strict
middling. 37?fe fl lb.
On Tuesday there was rather more inquiry; salee

On We 'neaday the staple was tn better demand,
and, wltb an improving Inquiry and better news,
prices hardened about %c. ft lb., but the increasing
stiffness of factors, and the indisposition to oeil,
rendered it difficult for bu vera to operate unless at
higher rates; sales about 600 bales, ordinary to good
ordinary being quoted at 20%fa2<5%, low middling
37, middling 27%@27%c ft ib.
Yesterday the Arm views of factors prevented
transaction; sales about 100 bales, say 0 at 36;6 at
