The Radical majority in-Congress, in its zeal to restrict the privileges of the white raoe, while it extends those of the negvo, was the other day on the point of commit? ting . * of those blunders that ?re saisi to be worse thaa a crime. We allude to the movement to embarrass the process of natu? ralization. It came in the shape of a bill, introduced by Senator Frelinghuysen, lim? iting to United State3 courts the right grant naturalization. As there are few these courts, and they are in session gene? rally fora short time, the provision would in effect amouut to prohibiting large num? bers of foreigners from becoming natural? ized. Strange as it may appear, a depute lion of naturalized foreigners, headed by Dr. Leiber, has visited Washington to urge, on behalf of the foreign-born citizens, the adoption of the bill. The members of the deputation having already obtained citi? zens' rights for themselves, were unwilling that their countrymen, not so fortunately situated, should enjoy the privileges accord ed to every African. The bill was favorably received by the dominant party and its pas? sage seemed certain, when & counter de? monstration from the substantial Germais of New York created a panic among its supporters and gave the coup de grace to the whole movemeut. The meeting which wrought this result was composed chiefly of j Germans who had acted with thc Radical party. General Siegel presided.
