DEATH OF COLONEL J. J. BYAN.-The Barn
' well Journal contains a full obituary notice of the
late Colonel J. J. Byan, who died at that place ou
Monday, the 8th instant. Colonel Ryan was a na?
tive of Ireland, but had been brought to this c un
try in his inihncy, and bad lived at Barnwell from
the time he ?as eighteen ye irs of age. He was a
fortunato merchant, and a prcmraeut member of
the Legislature bef?te tbe war. Buring the war he
was a colonel rtf reserves, and afterwards superin?
tendent of lubor on thc coast. Alter thc war, having
lost his fortune, he bccsnioan azeut of thc Mouth
Carolina Railroad Company, whicb position lie held
until disabled by disease.

Society wUl take place this evening, at balf-past seven
o'clock, at tho Second Presbyterian Church. The
annual report of the society wil1 bc read by the Rev.
W. H. Adams, after which addresses will be deliver?
ed by tho Rev. J. R. Pickett and thc Rev. Dr. Hicks.
Tho Board of Managers stato that they feel the ne?
cessity of mcreabing the efforta of the society in cir?
culating the Scriptures, and earnestly appeal to the
citizens of Charleston to enroll their Dames as mem?
bers. The payment of only two dollars a year con?
stitutes membership, "ihe public are invited to at?
tend the exercises this evening, when a collection
will be taken up to aid the work in which the society
