THE DAILY NEWS. Song. All around and all above thee Is the bushed and charmed air; All things woo thee, all things lore thee, Maiden fair! Gentle zrphyrs perfume breathing. Waft to theo their tribute sweet, And tor thee tho spiing ie wreathing, Garlands meet. In their cavrned cool recesses, Songs for thee the tountains mme; Whah'oe'or the wave care s-es Lisps thy name. Groener verdura, brighter blossom, Wheresoe'er thy footsteps stray, O'er the earth's enamored bosom. Live alway. Wheresoe'er thy presence lingera. Wheresoe'ur thy brightness beams, Fancy weaves with cunning fingers ?weitest dreams. And the heart forgets thee never. Thy young beauty 'n ono delight ; There it dwells and dwells forever, Ever bright. AEEAZRS IX THE STATE. Spart ii nb ur;', The Spartan says: Many of our farmers are bringing in their" cotton, and on Tuesday of this week, were selling at twenty-seven cents. We understand that corn is selling from the "wagons at ninety cents, and peas about tho same. Some of our planters are still holding their cotton for higher prices. Darlington. The Democrat says: A faint effort was made during tho Christmas holidays, on the part of the freedmen, to combine lor high wages, but the danger of failing to get a good place had its proper influence, and the effort fell through. Planters have never before found it so easy to procure the hands they desired, on reasonable terms. We are glad to be informed that the majority of the contracts are for wages, the general rule being six dollars per month to a firstrate hand, the planter furnishing house room and rations. MUCH WEAB AND MAN* WASHINGS_I am acquainted with a variety of sewing machines, and while ready to do justice to all, I greatly prefer yours, which I have used for more than three yoars. Very slight instruction and in? genuity are required to use it. Tho needle is short and straight, consequently not liable to bend or break. It never misses' a stitch, and makes a firm, even seam. I have used it on even* kind of cloth, from delicate lace to heavy .woollen, and feud its work perfectly satisfactory in all caaes. After much wear and many wash? ings, the stitch retains its beauty and firmness, even after the fabric bas worn out.-[Mis. J. H. Yerkes, Rochester, N. Y., to Willcox & Gibbs S. IL Co., May, 18G6. January-22 /tnonnal uno Commercial. Tilt Chaxltslon Money Market. TacssDAT, January 21, 1869. Although the amount of general stock business done during the week lias not been large, prices are firm and the tendency of the market is decidedly upward. The attention paid by the New Vork bro? kers has encouraged holders hereto lock up their securitie?, and the impression is current that the abundant supply of money in the South, and the in? quiry in the Northern markets, will push our choice bonds and stocks to much higher than thc present pnces. State bonds and stocks are looked upon as likely to improve, for the reason that no Southern State, of which we hiv.- knowledge, ba3 a smaller debt ."i proportion to her resources and the produc? tive capacity of the people. First-class railroad bonds are also in demand und promis e to look up. City stock has been but little affected by the recent mt>v? mcnts in tho contested election case. Large sales wero made yesterday at 67, aud unless ?hero is a blind and foolish panic, no conting en :y should run prices very low.
