City Council hold an extra mcetiDp last night to consider the subject of thc mandamus. Preseut-Tbs Mayor, Aldermen Geddings, Potter, Cunningham, Lindsttom, Adams, Dereef, Wall, O? noy. Honour, Whlden, Voigt, Moore and Marshall. Ihe Mayor reported that he had held a consulta? tion with the City Attorney, and tho latter had pre? pared a declaration of the election and a return to tbe writ Tho declaration sets forth the number of votes cast for Mayor and Alderton at the election held on D; -.'ember 10, from which it appears that Gilbert Pillsbury aud his ticket of Aldermen teceived the largest number cf votes cast The return recites tho declaration already made by Council, and that tho election bad b:en contested and declare 1 illegal and void. Alderman. Adams p roposed lo offer a substitute for the return, which occa ionod considerable discus? sion, and he was finally ruled out of order and not allowed to read h's substitute.
