SA VINOS OP THE COLORED PEOPLE.-The Jan? uary number of tho National Savings Bank, pub? lished monthly at Washington, D. G., gives avery interesting ?talement of the savings of the colored people up to December 1st, 1868, through tho agen? cy of the trust lund companies, iustituted since tho war, in the South. Ihe figures show that in twenty four branches of the freedmen's savings banks-all located in the Southern States except one in New York city-the aggregate cavings of the colored peo? ple have been $932,869 for eleven ^months up to De comber 1st, 1868, against $666,673 lor tho s'me pe? riod in the previous year-an increase of $376,216. Tho total number of depositors is 9000. The branch at Washington chows thc largest aggregate deposits and increase. On December 1st, 1867, the deposits in ibu Washington concern wore $53,969, and on De? cember ls*, ultimo, they were nearly doubled, foot lng up $116,195. The increase at Baltimore was noarly in the same ratio; the previous year's deposits amounted to $46.771, and this year they stand $74, '738. At Beaufort, South Carolina, the Increase was from ?48,618 lo $77.7,38. At Memphis the advance was from $13,673 to $32,793. Figures Uko these, chowing nearly a million dollars already saved by nine thousand people, hitherto aim jst wholly unac? quainted with money, speak better than words, and give point to tho moral of that solid Independence founded upon au account in the bank.
