Tuc Daily Xews-Thc CasL System. When tho price of THE DAILY NEWS was re? faced to six dollars a year, we resolved to in? sist upon thc payment of subscriptions in ad? vance. This rulo was immediately applied to our mail subscribers, and at thia timo wo have not a subscriber, outside cf Charleston, wno has not paid in ndvance tho price of his sub? scription. Wo gave no credit, and the paper was invariably stopped when the term tor which payment bad been made expired. The experience of the past year has confirmed our belief that the cash system is the only plan upon which a paper can bo conducted with safety and success, and we have therefore de terminod to apply that system uniformly io our subscribers in Charleston. Oe the loth instant, all papers for which the subscription price has not been paid will bo stopped without further notice, and from that date no paper will be delivered after the expi? ration of the timo for which payment has been made. In order to accommodate persons who may be unprepared to pay the subscription in ad? vance, wo have made arrangements to deliver THE NEWS within the city limits at fifteen cents a weet, instead of eighteen cents as heretofore, payment to ba made weekly. MARINE ACCIDENT.-Tho steamer Bockland, on coming to her wharf at the foot of Market-street, from Mount Pleasant, on Sunday evening, struck a snag projecting from the remains of an adjoining pier, which caused ber to sink. ASSAULT WITH AN AXE.-Ncverson Wright and Wm. Do rill alias "Chub," two colored charac? ters well known in the upper wards, made an assault on John Lanigan yesterday, while he was passing "Gsbeau Row," in Charlotte-street, and attempted to take his life with an axe. He fortunately escaped, and immediately repaired to Magistrate Rivers and took out a warrant for their arrest. IN A PERILOUS SITUATION.-Yesterday, while the storm of wind was sweepini the harbor and cap? ping the river, a boat that had capsized when np Ashley River floated down the bay with a colored man on its keel vociferating wildly for he'p. He was fortunately seen by some colored fishermen on Moreland's wharf, who immediately pushed out i his rescue and brough: him safely to land. Seme time elapsed before he recovered froir. his fright. ROBBERY AND DETECTION.-Paul Trcscott (colored) Uviug at No. 33 A-hlcy-strcet, was robbed some time ago of sundry articles, and could not as? certain the whereabout! of tho property lost until yesterday, when he saw Sam Hutson, a colore? man, with a coat on which he had lost. Sam provcJ, how? ever, satisfactorily, that he had bought it from Henry Chapman (colore 1), who could not satisfactorily ac? count for it, and was consequently apprehended, and will have a hearing this morning.
