The Virgo ls a large carrier, and a substantial . steamer.. i STREET SCENES.-The protested eleotion was the principle topic of conversation along the streets yesterday. The probable and im prob? able were discussed, rumors retailed, and opin? ions given as to the result, by the groups of men who generally inhabit the street corners. Early in the morning it was stated that Pills? bury would be installed in spite of the protest, but as the day wore on this was contradicted -by his friends, and nothing occurred to mar the serenity of the public mind. SALE OF A VALUABLE LAW LIBRARY.-Messrs. R. M. Marshall tn Bro. will Bell tins day the law library ot the late .Jamas Tupper, Esq., Master in Equity. This library is the accumu? lation of many years of professional labor, and is especially rich in works on equity, the de? partment of law in which the owner was more especially employed. A rare opportunity is afforded to the lawyers to replenish their libra? ries, as the books are appraised low, and will probably sell at very reasonable figures. The sole will commence at 10 A. M. THE Cm ora.-The canvass was spread yes? terday on the Citadel Green, and the hearts of i : san dry juveniles gladdened by a promise of a visit to the popular show. Baring the after? noon the platform car of the Street Railroad Company was engaged, and a band discoursed sweet music alon? the different routes. The performance was capital, the actors having im? proved siuco their lost visit, and nothing wus wanting to make it one of the shows of the age. Every accommodation hos been provided for visitors, and th-3 large tent was well filled last Hight. The Company will repeat their perform? ance to-Dight. Ryan. The property con? sists of fifteen acres of land in St. Andrew's Parish, situated between Wappoo Creek and Ashley River and bounding on both Btroams. It adj'oins the Savannah Railroad wharf, and is just opposite to the western terminus of Broad-street. On this land is a steam saw mill, with ali the necessary buildings for car? rying on an extensive lumber business. The machinery, which will be sold at the same time, is very valuable, and altogether this sale affords euch an opportunity to capitalists as bnt very rarely occurs. AIVNTVEBSABY OF THE WIDOW S HOME.-The first anniversary of this useful charitable in? stitution will be celebrated to-morrow, Wednes? day, November 18, by appropriate exercises to be. held at the Home, in Broad-street. It is extremely gratifying to know that a charitable enterprise, in which the people of Charleston hard manifested peculiar interest from its very inception, has completed a year of successful and prosperous operation. Its objects are of a character to recommend it to the consideration of all Southern people, and it has not lacked for support even from the generous people of the North.
