Skiff & Gaylord's troupe every night since their arrival. It is one of the best minstrel 'troupes that bas "over visited Charleston, and it has reaped the due reward of merit-suc? cess._ DEPLORABLE ACCIDENT_Mr. T. D. Waring, one of tbe workmen employed in erecting the sew cotton press in Church-street, slipped .'from the roof and fell to the ground yesterday, breaking his leg and cutting his face badly. He was instantly raised and received every at? tention, bat his injuries will confine him to his ?bed for some time. Fortunately the building is only one story high. Mr. Waring is a man of family, and his accident is a great mis? fortune to them in these hard times. HON. GEORGE S. BRYAN.-This indefatigable public servant resumed his duties yesterday, after a short vacation, the first In which he has indulged since he received his appoint? ment as Judge of the United States District -Court for Sooth Carolina. Judge Bryan has been spending a few weeks at the North in pleasant relaxation, rendered necessary by his ^arduous duties, and has returued braced in health and spirits for the unremitting labors ?of the coming winter. THE CIRCUS LAST NIGHT.-Aa a natural con? sequence of the fino parade yesterday, the de? lightful weather and the beautiful moonlight night, Robinson's pavilion was crowded last evening by an immense audience, whose ex? pectations had been excited to the highest pitch of curiosity aud wonder. The perform? ances were loudly applauded throughout, and when the exhibition was over, all went away satisfied that they had not been mistaken in believing that John Robinson had the largest .and most complete circus and m?nagerie in America._ THE CITY FIRE COMPANIES.- The colored "firemen of Charleston paraded yesterday "through the principal streets, having then ap? paratus in excellent order, and presenting, rm the whole, a very fine appearance. The color? ed firemen are, and always have been active, .able-bodied fellows, the picked men of our .colored population, and they deserve credit, not only for then: handsome parades, but also . more especially for their vuluable services in .the many conflagrations which have visited thia oity._ MEETTNG-SIREET IMPROVEMENTS.-The scaf? folding bas been removed from thc new build? ing of Messrs. Cameron, Barkley & Co.. at tho corner of Meeting and Cumberland streets, and its proportions are now visible. It is not as .ornamental as was at first desigued, but will .be a great improvement to that part of Meet- j ing-street. The repairs on the Ice House are .atiil progressing, and that structure will bo -completely remodelled and made both more useful and moro ornamental, as its capacity .will be increased and tho dilapidated front re? placed by some more modern desiga. On the back the elephant was a light structure rcsembli a pulpit in shape, bat made of a frame wc covered with silk aud.gauze. From this ea ern pulpit rose what appeared to bs a hu man, twelve or fourteen feet high, nodding a gesticulating to thc attending crowd. Tl was, o? course, only a lay figuro with a m inside, but many a juvenile went home firrr convinced that he had seen tho lineal desee dont of Gohath of Gath. The procession its lout ensemble was pronounced by manc? he tho handsomest and most complete of tl kind that had ever appeared on thc streets Charleston. A SHOOTING SCBAPE-EXCITEMENT OF TE CROWD.-Quite an excitement was created : the city yesterday by rumors that a white bc had been shot by a negro on the Citadel Gree and killed. Few porsous were a war o of tl facts of tho case, and as the story was eira1 a ed it grew. Yesterday morning, about half-pi 10 o'clock, while a large crowd was around tl Circus tent anxious to see the wonderful sight some of the boldest lifted the edgo of the cai vase and took a peep. A negro named San Scott, who was engaged in keeping the crow at a distance, shouted at them and went ti ward them for the purpose of driving thei away. While in discharge ot this duty a pisti which he held in his hand was fired, aud pm all whito boy standing near was shot in tb calf of the leg, the bullet coming out justabov the ankle. The negro was arrested by ordc of General Chitz and taken to thc upper Guare house by a detachment of United States so diers and transferred to tho civil authontioc His pistol was token away aud he was held t answer the charge ot carrying concealed weap ons and assault with intent to kill. He claim that the shooting was accidental, the piste being cocked, and it was fired while he wa trying to lot down the hammer. A large crowi followed tho eoldiers to the Guardhouse, am the excitement ou tho s'rcot doubtless causee the many rumors that were afloat. T_w bo; was not seriously injured and will soon recover as he received prompt medical attention. WARD 5.-At tho meeting of the Dcmocratii Club of this ward, held on Wednesday evening a majority decided to sustain the action of th? Central Club. After the me?ting bad ndjourn ed, the minority, who were only beaten by on< vote, met and decided that the ward should b< represented in the proposed Nominating Con? vention, and thc following delegates wero cho? sen: H. H. Bolger, Wm. Byrne, Jos. H. Op? penheim, M. Kelley and W. P. Russell, lt wae also decided to call a meeting cf the citizons ol the .vard favoring such action to meet the next night.
