The colored man's party "has lately gained success in some elections "in the South ; but while the white race has "onits side numbers, development^ intelli? gence, property and organic superiority, "it is impossible for a people far behind "them in-all these points to retain, for any "length of time, even a show of dom inancy." ; "After the settlement .of all the affairs of "the Southern States, we expect to see a ?urge white immigration there. -And the "South will become strong and energetic, , "and. free, and rieb, and attractive, and "moresunny than ever." The Radicals may falsify a good many of their acts ; bat they cannot deny that what is going on to-day in Columbia is their work. We struggled against it; we pre? dicted what the. consequences of "Recon? struction," so called, would be, but all oar protestations and efforts were scouted as disloyal. Now, let the Republicans take the responsibility. They have weil nigh ruined the State; they have utterly dis? graced the country. Their agony of states? manship, _ for three momentous years, has littered-into the "Legislature of South Carolina."
