But when the great Dem? ocratic party- of She North and West were urning for the death-struggle with Radi :alism, the South spoke with barning Longues, crying out night and day, crying Dut without ceasing : Save us, or we and ye shall perish! Was it to be expected that the people of j teat States should otter no word when they sad been bound hand and foot and attempted to be ruled by the oolored men whom they had emancipated a few years before ? While the North and West were demonstra? ting the'follies, extravagances and tyran? nies of Radicalism, were the people of the Sooth to be dumb ? Were they who bore ind Buffered the most to place a seal upon their own lips, and a bandage upon their syes? No: they are not stocks and stones, but living, breathing, thinking men, who will not b?sate when honor and justice urge them to vindicate their plea,-who will not tire until they bare made it known to every honest man in the North, East and West, that there can be no peace while rev? olution reigns in tba Federal capitol, and while the Jacobins of this day strive to sub? ject the white, raeh of .the South to a shame? ful servitude, compared to which African slavery was freedom. The Radicals are, of coarse, eager to prove that the reconstructed States of the Sooth are wisely and temperately governed. They have declared, until their words have been believed, that the ' South has been treated with more clemency than she de served. Bat now this cannot be. Anna? and others, shipbuilders, the balance of certain moneys, learly one million of dollars in gold; alleg ;d to remain in their possession from the isle of war steamers to, the ' Confederate Government It is alleged' that in_18C3 Confederate agents abroad entered into a : on tract with defendants to furnish four arst-class sea-going war steamers, for the use of the Confederate Government, for the sum of two millions five hundred thous? and dollars in gold, and that the defendants were so far able to fulfil their contract that all the vessels were built, and one, the Stonewall, actually delivered, the vigi? lance of the American ministers frustrating the attempts to deliver the other three, which were subsequently sold to other gov? ernments. It was said at the time that the ships were to be sold to the Emperor of j China, who seemed unaccountably disposed it that particular moment to make a formi lable increase of his" navy.
