Name changed by a legislative enactment to the Eclectic .V cd :uj col? lege, ol Philadelphia, in 1360. In 1863 it puree-? ed the Pennsylvania Medical college, es.abhshed m 13*2, and the Philadelphia Medical College, which had previously been merged into tho Pennsylvania Medical college. In 1864 it purchased tho Penn Medical Univi rsiiy. Tao Trustees of thc separate schools united, petitioned and obtained a social Act of the Lepis.ature, consolidating these instituuonsand cha.ging their names to that ot the Philadelphia University of Medicine and Surgary, March 15,1865. All these various Acts aro publi bed in the statutes of Pennsylvania. The cost of the I undina and museum was over one hundred thousand dollars. It will be observed that the University, aa now organized, la the legal representative of the lour Medical Colleges that il has absorbed. It is a liberal school of medicine, con? fined to no dogma, nor attached io any medical cliques, but embrace^ m iu teaching everything of value to the profession. Sessions.-It has two full sessions each year, commenc? ing on tho 1st of October, ann continuing until the lat of January, as its first session, and from the 1st of January to the 1st ol April, as its second; the two constituting one full course of lectures. It has also a summer session, commencing tho 1st April aed continuing until August, for the preparatory branches, such as Latin, Greek. In case a stu en t should hold a scholarship and not be able to attend lectures, it can be transferred to another, thus preventing an/ los?. Parents, guardians or friends of students wishing to purchase scholarship tor them a year or more bet?re then- attendance at tue University, can secure them by advancing one-half the price and paying the balance when the student enters. Physicians and benevolent men can bestow great benefit upon poor young men by presenting them a scholarship, and thus enabling them to ootain an honorable profession. Ihe Faculty embraces seventeen eminent physicians and surgeons. COLLEGE BUTLDESO.-The Collage building, located in Ninth street, south of Walnut, is the finest in the city. Its front is collegiate gothic, and is adorned with em battlements and embrasures, presenting a novel, bold, and beautiful appearance. The facade is of brown stone, ornamented by two towers, rising to the elevation of eight; teet, and crowned with an embattled parapet. The building contains between fifty and sixty rooms, all supplied with water, gas, and every other convenience that modern improvement can contribute to facilitate metical in-trucuon. Only five hundred scholarships will be issued, and os two hundred and fiity aro now sold, those wno wish to secure ocu should do so at once.
