FINANCIAL. -Tho moneyed obligations of our merchants which have been pressing heavily for some time, are being mot, we learn, with that promptitude and good faith which bas always characterized our business men. The payments for faotors acceptances have lately been particu? larly la-ge, and it was mentioned yesterday that the amount of paper payable on that day would sum np about $500,000. Our planters would do well to forward their crops and sustain their credit, as they may find that the prompt meeting of their liabil.ties, even at some sacrifice, will in the future be of important service to themselves. MEE UNO or Crrr COUNCIL.- The la-it regular meeting of tho City Council takes place to-day, and the report of the Retrenchment Committee comes up for final consideration. The meeting will be one of great interest to the public, as the report of tho Committee has beon generally read and commented upon. The proposed reforms are evidently needed,is a reduction of the expenses of the city to a proper limit, is considered the only m?thod of retrenchment that can bo effected. Among tho many steamers j which ply between thia port and the inland towns the Planter is perhaps the most noteworthy. The vieissitndes of the war occasioned a sudden change ol' ber owners, and she was engaged for some time in blockading her old home. MAYOR'S COURT.-An unsophisticated individual Tho was not posted on the morals of Charleston vas tempted to commit the crime of selling liquor vithout a license. He represented that it v.-ns lone in charity, as the purchaser was Buffering for i few drops; but a deaf car was turned to his ex? cuses and a flue of $50 in greenbacks recorded igainst him. They were solemnly conducted to the cell, .bo guard singing mournlully, "Tramp 1 Tramp 1 :be boys are marching." The glare of tho lights lend a charm to the different wares, and the eye at once catches what might be unobserved in the day time. Among these the Zootrope is, perhaps, the most remarkable. This is of a cylindrical shape, enclosing various pictures and with slits or open? ings at regular distances.
