THE STATE BXXS.-Wjicopj, from tue Columbia Chronicle, tho following information : "On authority that is unquestionable, wc have the pleasure of informing the public that General CANRT has ordered the Treasurer of tue State to pay the bills against the State (or the quarantine established at Charleston by order of Uenoral SICKLES, in tile bills receivable of the State. "This'set must remove all doubt as to the value of this currency, both now and under the incom? ing State Government. There has be.a a fear that the demands of the militar}' authorities upon the State Treasury would absorb all of the green-. backs duo from various sources. Toe quarantine bills themselves have been a bugbear; yet only about twenty-five hundred dollars per month baa been the amount of expenditure required, and :uis will cease probably in thirty day?. "Brokers and others interested in buying the bills receivable hero availed themselves of this public doubt to depreciate their valuo; among the ignorant they have found their dupes, and the. money had been sold at somo discount. Lu Charleston, four days ago, we learn that tho bills were worth "ninety." This action of General CAMBY, however, authorizing the payment of State recounts with State currency, is an absolute en? dorsement of their value, and no citizen has fur? ther excuse for refusing to take it. "But even without this order of the military commander, there was not the slightest probabili? ty of loss being entailed upon any man by this circulation. There is not moro than thirty thou? sand .dollars in the market, ail told, while there are upwards of one hundred and twenty thousand dollars due the State on tax executions that have been issued." That shortly after Ii o'clock, deponent was sent for and informed tl something was wrong with Nugent, the deesas* and wheu deponent came home he fou ci Nugi lying on a settee, with his head nn a pillow, felt his pulso, found it very strong; raised up head, gave him a drink of whiskey, and then wt for Dr. Yat es. Deponent furtlicr testified that on thc dny.f lowing that; apo? which the deceased carno board with him, Nugent and bis comrade, Char Earle, went to the drug store of Messrs. Duws & Blackman, in Brood street, bought five cot worth of the oil of vitriol, brought it homo a deceased put seventeen drops ot it into a glass water and drank it. Deponent asked bim what did this for and he answered "to make him Bobe That when deceased put down the bottlo, tho ce slipped ont and some of tho liquor spilled a burnt his clothes. That about tho 5th instant t deceased deposited with deponent $150 in current and that deponent did not see bim have a other money at that time or since. Deponent pa the funeral expenses of the deceased. Vitarles Earle testified-That ho was a member Company D, 17th United States Infantry, of whii company the deceased was also a member. Dcp nent was discharged from tho Company on tl 20th day of September last in Fernandina, Florid and deceased was discharged four days after war at the same place. Thev came to Charleston t pether and boarded st Mr, Murphy's. No. 2 Que street. Deponent and deceased were paid off Charleston. Deceased received something ov $200 on the 3d instant. Deceased ashed depona to show bim where he could find a drug store, he wanted to get some acid. I discovered the fo lowing conditions : On removing the integumet covering tho cranium, T fourni a quantity nf dar blood [and on entering the cavity a large aumin of sanguinary fluid, with a quantity ol tho sam (coagulated) detected, situated between the nu lunges of the brain proper. J Tho organ itself wa somewhat congested. The above abnormal cond tiona wore sufficient causo of dcuth. I afterward examined the stomach, and found i highly congested, show;ng that some irrttatin; fluid or substance had entered therein. On exam ining tho cont.nts I thought 1 detected the sine! rf ardent spirits. He had been drinking on th day of his death. It was reported that the de ceased had suffered irom fever while residing ii Florida, and had been in the habit of taking oil o vitriol, which, when taken in large doses, i poisonous. The information elicited from those who witness ed his death, and the result ot the post morten examination, do not show that he waa poisoned lr that drug. My opinion is that he died from apoplexy.
