W. CARLTON & Co., who will have ready at the same time, a novel by a new Southern lady author, entitled "Four Oaks." A PLEABURE ra STOBE.-The hugo picture galle? ry recently er <cted in Meeting utroet, by DAN CAB nxi.o, was surrounded yesterday by au admiring crowd, who discussed tho fanciful representations. The urchins, both white and black, were in high glee, and discussed the contemplated invasion with considerable animation. There aro few who do not remember January and the other features of DAN U Caravan, and we anticipate a rush to the oanvass, as soon as its white walls aro reared on tho Oreen. CURIOUS AND INTEBBSTINO.-A deni uro looking individual was seen on East Bay at an early hour yesterday morning ( when the thermometer was below seventy degrees), with a large but faded umbrella aproad overhead os a protection against the mild sunshine that other folks wore seoking from choice. Another singular phenomenon was a man, with a straw hat and an overcoat on, walking on the battery lato yesterday afternoon. We propound the inquiry, What does it all mean ? PROCESSION or COLORED CHILDREN.-Tho un? usual sound of martial music hoard on the streets yesterday, caused a number of curious persons to collect on the street oorners and along the side? walks, in order to obtain a good view of the show. The procession was li oral il od by a band of music, and was composed of colored children, members, we were informed, of the Bev. Kane's Sunday School in the African Church. The children were guarded by a small body of colored men in uni? form, and by two policemen. They paraded through the principio streets and attracted a con? siderable crowd of colored boys and men who lined the sidewalks. Tm NEW TARIFF FOB WINTER FREIGHTS FROM CHARLESTON TO ALL INTERIOR POINTS TN SOUTH CAROLINA.-We eeo by the newspapers at all the most prominent interior points that the South Carolina Railroad has squared off for a rogular Winter campaign in freights to Columbia and all points in this State. We see in the Columbia pa? pers now and then fabulous accounts of freight movements (?) via all sorta of lines-except by Charleston on account of prices-and yet a con? spicuous advertisement is in every other South Carolina paper that comes to hand, which con? tains this irroproHsiblq announcement : 'Vates al? ways guaranteed leds than the pub??snod rates of any other line." The Camdon Journal says : " We see by an advertisement in the Columbia Phoenix, that the South Carolina Railroad Com? pany have reduoed the freights materially, on all S3ods shipped from New York, Philadelphia and altimore to Columbia. The rates charged are ?roarahteed to be less than thoso of any other ine, and changes will be promptly made to meet reductions in competing Unes." We hope the Columbia papers will find room for this information, and if they have leisure, we suggest a comparison of rates by the various Unes. . ? . . The Steamship Unes to Charleston and the South Carolina Railroad, offer the inducements Of " time " and " money saved " and the steamers and traine come and go, foll of freights. Our country cousins will get at the truth after awhile we hope.
