We call our readers' especial attention to the advertisement in another column. STREET RAIDERS.-The doctrino of Mi-am and iuum have not been sufficiently promulgated in this community, and the personal property of the citizens frequently suffers from thc attachment of the light-fingered gentry. A number of these characters have recently organized a gang for the purpose of wrenching the bell knobs and plates from the street doora. Thcso depredations wore conducted very successfully, and the rascals suc? ceeded in eluding the police for some time; but their race was nearly run, and (bur of them wero recently brought to grief Ly the detective.-. An examination of the case showed that the property was bought by some junk dealers in the city, who will be indicted for purchasing stolen goods and for violating tho rules of tho city, which prohibit them purchasin,' from a minor, ?onie ot thu stolen door plates were recovered in the shops, and identified by the owners. . THE BUSLNKSS HOUSES OF CHARLESTON.- A pass? ing glance at the stores on Meeting street would satisfy even the superficial observer that there were no idle hands to be found, everything show? ing bustle, life and activity. These are the pre? monitory eigus of the approaching Fall trade, and the merchants are now preparing for their country customers, who have already sent out their van? guard. The enterprise and business activity evinced by our marchants, is so general, that it would be a useless task to discriminate be? tween them, as they have all proved themselves equal to the emergency. We proposo at present to refer to Messrs. MARSHALL, BCBOE A BOWEN, whose advertisement appears in our paper. The gentlemeu composing this firm are uot only*old merchants, but have a thorough acquaintance with all th'.- requirements of the country trade. Their stock has consequently been well selected, and their customers can not only obtain every article on their lists, but they will bo shown goods ihat are especially adapted for this market, and which will prove? acceptable to the trade. Messrs. M \R SHALL, BPRQE & BOWEN have now at their stand, iSo. 143 Meeting street, a large, full, aud well se? lected stock. The firm is well known throughout this State, Georgia, Alabama and Florida, and their customers will have no difficulty in malting selec? tions. Their goods have been purchased from first class houses, and can be sold at thc same rates as those offered by their northern competitors. MKETTNO AT MT. Ita great strength on account of being double-geared, which not only doubles the Htrength by dividing the strain on twice the number of teeth, but by gearing on both sides of the wheels it equalizes the wear on the shafts, and materially lessens the friction, enabling the horses to do much more work than with any other Power. 2. Ita compactness and extreme portability, it weighing about one-half as much aa other Horse Polars, and occu? pying but one-third the space, it can be packed in small boxes, thus saving much expense. It ia so simple that the most ignorant person would have no difficulty in putting it together. 3.
