THE CALDER HOUSE.-This popular hotel, at the corner of Church and Queen streets, has been leased by" Madame G i DIE BE , ta vor ably k no w n as the former hostess of the Carolina House, and is now opened to the public. The Calder House or the Planters' Hotel, was at one timo a great favorite with the traveling public, particularly with the planters of the coast, from which circumstance it probably gained tho latter name. Madame GEDIEHE has established a reputation as an experienced landlady, and finding that tho Carolina House was too contracted to accommodate her friends, wisely determined to make the present change. There is nothing, perhaps, that contributes more to the lively appearance o? a city- than its hotels, and ander the new regime the Calder House bids fair to become again one of the popular caravan? saries of the city, which show by their crowdod | haQs that Chai leeton is the queen city of tho | South. A NAEBOW ESCAPE.-A lady who Uvea, a few milda from the city has furnished us with an account of the narrow escape of her grand? son from death on the railroad. Tho lady and her grandson, a boy about twelve years of ago, had walked twelve miles to obtain oom, but were una? ble to secure it, and the little fellow returned homo. Herbad walked about five miles, when, overcome by <'esp and hanger, ha sat down on the track and fall asleep. Fortunately, * adored man carno along' the rbed and woke him aa tho down train was in ekrhr, or ne 'would have been crashed to death. Ho did not know when ho had fallen asleep, .?ad - reached his heme after being absent twenty-four hoare. The practice of walking' on the railroad track is entirely-too common, and not? withstanding the numerous accidents that have occurred, there seems to be some attraction among! the oroea-tios that is almost irresistible.
