They were soon extricated, and the proper at? tention paid their wounds, -. Nsw RYE.-Wo have had the pleasure of in? specting a stalk of rye from the plantation of Mr. B. R. Bsiiaae, in Clarendon District. This stalk is of luxuriant growth, the stem is large and strong, while the head is covered with the bearded grain. Accommodation Wharf, furnished us yesterday with a well-developed cotton bloom from the plantation of Messrs; WELDON & PATTON, planters in Christ Church Parish. These parties have a good stand and fair prospect, and from thia specimen, we should suppose, should the weather in the future prove favorable, they will have an early specimen of the long staple on the market. Baxrjsj LOA? Assonranoir.-At the annual meet ing of this Association, held on the 15th instant, the following gentlemen were elected the Board of Direction for the ensuing year : ; - WTXLIAM B, EKBIOT, President .''w,sV^MOinar. AT.PTA WT)KR CALDER. JOHN B. DUKES. E. M. MORELAND.? DEATH or AV OLD Paaren*.-The Seana (Ala.) Metxnger chronicles the death, in the Almshouse of Dallas County, on Saturday last, of ROBERT MCKNIGHT in the 84th year of his age. Mr. MCKNIGHT wat, perhaps, the oldest printer in the United Stetos, haring oommenoed learning the "art preservative of all arts" in Gergetown, 8. a, in 1798, and until within a few years was able to work at toe case. He was an honest, industrious, and good man, and nothwithstanding the poverty In which be died, waa much respected by all who knew him. He was the father of Major Gao. MCKNIGHT, better known aa " ASA HABTZ." NEW FLOTJE.-The Empire State had the honor of making the first shipment of new wheat, and abe is now revelling in the enjoyment of new flour. The OonetuMionalisl of Sunday says: "We bara received and put to a thorough test a sample I of extra famfly nour from the Granite Mills of j Mosers. Gao. T. JACXBOK & Co. The flour, in all respects, equals, if indeed it does not excel, any hitherto ground at thia famous mill. Housekeep? ers, knowing the impossibility of having good bread without good flour, wfll be pleased to leam that the Mesure. JAOESOS ? Co. wfll be able hence? forth to nil ail orders." TBS CHARLESTON AGEIOULTUHAL WAREHOUSE. Messrs. Lrrrix & MaESBALy? at No. HO Meeting street, opposite the Pavilion Hotel, hare an estab? lishment that ia fitted up with every variety of agricultural implements that is of use to the farmer. Among these are the numerous labor? saving machines, lately invented, besides the dif? ferent implements that hare long been in use among our planters. In addition to the smaller t?ileMaem, Messrs. LITTLE ? M?RSTULT, are the agents for several cotton gins, mowing and reap? ing fr**"**, and other implements. We advise a viait to their establishment, and the farmer wfll find that be has been in want of many essentials tnat would enable him to conduct his work with a great saving of time, labor and money. Tva HAEMCNIONB.-A crowded house greeted the irrepressible, irresistible BOYCE last night. Tbs troupe exerted themselves to their utmost, and as they aB performed in their best role?, the result was a perfect success. It would be rain to partkmiariae where aU ware thorough, and the moat uncompromising critic could not hare dis? covered any flaw in the entertainment. The two ands and the middle men made frequent hits, while the brilliant repartees uttered by the jovial Borea always brought down the house. The after? pieces were admirably adapted to show off the condo talent of the troupe, and the applause that greeted the actors was a convincing proof that the popularity they had acquired was not evanescent Jame. We are sorry that the troupe wfll not con? tinue their performances, but trust that later in the season they may be induced to repeat them. DECLINE XV THE Pans or FLO us.-There can be no piece of commerced intelligence more wel? come to the ears of the. poor than the announce? ment of a fall in the price of bread, and as, in our part of tim country, a very huge proportion of the people are suffering extreme poverty, and have been debarred, for a long while, from indulging in wheat flour, from the high price at which it has been "held, it is gratifying now io observe the great abundance of the crop reported from aU quarters, and tile consequent depreciation of pri?es. Bread aaa been truly called the staff of life, and it te a wefl known fact ta at its nourishing and strengthening qualities are not surpassed by any other food usually partaken of. Our great hope, therefore, te that the bilkers wfll discover the fafl ter price with a similar alacrity to which they find out a rise, and that in a few days we wfll bare the gratification of exchanging a five cent piece for a ramo of bread somewhat larger than a baby's fist Tam MILITARY AND THE COUBTS,-Several com? munications bare lately passed between the civil and military authorities relative to the present session of the State Court and the drawing of jurors. On Saturday, the 15th instant, a communi? cation was sent from Headquarters requesting the Clerk of the Court and the Sheriff tu appear before the Post Commander. This was done, and at the interview the Sheriff explained satisfactorily that the venire wee always made out at one term of the Court for the next, and Gen. SICEIJ IS' order regu? lating the drawing ot jurors was published after these jurymen bad already bean drawn and summoned. This statement, was referred to General SICKLES, and on Sunday another interview waa had, at which the General Commanding ex? pressed himself satisfied with the explanation, but advised a postponement of the Court, until the full lat of aU tax paying citizens could be obtained rom the assessor. Judge Mosas had an interview with the General yesterday after the adjournment of the Court, and win state to-day if the Court will be continued tr not. There te but tittle basin ess before the Court this term, both the criminal and civil dockets being extremely fight, and it is ex? tremely probable, that the session wfll continue trader tttpresent auspices and a new list be made out, thai win enable the authorities to comply with fhB provisions of the order. AT A MEETTNO of the Comet Fire Compon 6, the following officers were elected for the mg year: v.u JAMBS PBOOTOB, ?WHMA ? ASPER PEN WICK, Vioe-President FRANOIS FOWLES, Secretary. WILLIAM ROBERSON, First Axeras*. NATHANIEL DICKERSON, Second Axeman. SHIPMENT OP VEGETABLES.-The cultivate early vegetables for thia and Northern market become an important branch of business, ant large cargoes that are now taken byeverj York steamer prove that they command a : sale. These vegetables are raised on the i near the city, and are put up and shipped bj ties who have made this their occupation number of yean. Among these shipping chants none perhaps have had a larger erper than Mr. J. W. HUNT. His stand is near street and convenient to the Canners who long patronized him on that account. Mr. 1 possesses the same facilities for forwarding g that he had in the past, and we recommend establishment to all farmers and planters, k lng that they will receive prompt attention. THE JAIL LMBBOGLIO. -The robbery of Suco SIMPSON, before referred to, has created som ci temen t in the city, as an impression ?was ore that the military had taken charge of the j ail. United States Marshal, on hearing of the robt immediately communicated with the military the detective force. Subsequently the Sheri! becoming acquainted with the facts, also apr. to the detectives to ferret it out. Lien ant HENDBICKS ^immediately proceeded to jail, and commenced investigating the i ter, assisted by the military, who i four ' soldi era to take 1 temporary charge the two turnkeys. MoEvor and Loners, 1 been arrested, and the jailor suspended from f une t i ona until the case is decided. As the ma is still under investigation we forbear making j comments, but trust that the guilty parties I matter who they are, will be severely punis 1 A robbery in-a Jail ?B a novelty that is almost j hoard of, and the principal should he at o established that the bolts and bars, while t ! confine the prisoner, also protect him. I MATOB'S COURT, June 17.-Thomas MoLeai colored youth, of taking ways, who staid at he ' to mind the house for his mother while she ; out, and broke into her bureau, and stole I watches, a pair of sleeve hattons, and other val hies, had his case referred to the Chief of Dot tives hy his Honor, after hearing from his mai nal protector a glowing account of his thiev propensities. A dog case waa brought up for adjudication fore his Honor, hut, like all such oases, the i mal belonged to both parties, BO it was referrer a Magistrate's Court to be sued for in an aotioi trover. OOVBTTOF GENERAL Sessions AND COMMON PU -Hon F. J. UNITED STATES COTTBT-Hon. Gao. EL Bax presiding.-The case of TB ACT, IRWIN & Co. i JULIUS FLAUM, a voluntary bankrupt, und Isa and DAVID WALLACE, Assignees, waa. heai Messrs. WILKINSON & GILCHRIST- appeared for t creditors, and Messrs. BUIST t SIMONS for the i sign?es. The examination of the witnesses oe sumed the greater part of the morning. The sta! ment of FLAUM was read, and also a report frc the Registrar that he bad not yet received the la1 and r?gulations that were recently issued ai Wai ington, and the case was then continued for a ft thar hearing. In the United States Circuit Court the foliowil orders for security of costa were granted: "FR 8KB et al, ads. STEVENS and ADAMS ada. MICA HEB. " ' On motion of Messrs. MAOBATK A LOWNDES, d fondant's attorneys in both cases, it was order that the plaintiffs do enter into security for co??\ and that it be referred to the clerk to as certa the amount, and, until such security be given, i farther proceedings be stayed in the above case A BATCH or ROBBERIES.-Our city ls so qui that it is only by referring to the books of the D tee ti ve Office, that we become aware how mm rascality there is in oar midst. The services of detective are never appreciated until it is knov what he has done to preserve the peace; wh crimes he has stopped, and what arrests of susi oious characters have been made. On last night the record at the office showed tl following arrests on Wednesday : Joe Thomas, colored tar-heel, managed to stick to some clot ing in Elliott street, the property of Frank Harri colored. He was arrested and the property i covered. . A small colored boy, who had been apprentice to Mr. J. P. CLEMENT, of St. Andrew's, took Frene leave and carried with him a trank containix money, papers, 4c. The boy was seen on tl street by Mr. J. P. CLEMENT, Jr., who caused h arrest, and on his examination he was induced I ball where the stolen property had been oonoealei and it was subsequently recovered. John Oliver, colored, a tyro of some foortee sommera, was captured by the police and torne over by the Chief to Lieut. HDNDIOXB, under hi manipulations he confessed the robbery of shoe pants and silverware, which were recovered. A confidence man, who when dignified was Faa JZSKXHB, but when otherwise, was known as Foi Mile, wormed himself into the good graces of a old colored man on a wood boat, and succeeded i cheating him of his money. The thief catcher soon convinced him that he had better refonc which was done accordingly, Thomas McClean, a colored boy, broke into hi mother's bureau and stole from her one gold an one silver watch, three studs and two sleeve bul tons. The [watches were worth 1160 to $200, bu were bought hy a store-keeper in Biog stree! named ISAAC SCHWARTZ, for $6. He was arreste by the officers and confessed the crime-for suci it was-to make the purchase at that price an from an irresponsible party. Officers COATEE HOGAN and FASH arrested both parties and re covered the property. Tax PEA ELY GATES.-Pore white teeth and i sweet breath, issuing like perfume from the rose through a pair of lovely Ups, are, as SHAKSPEABJ says, "an excellent thing in woman," To keep th "pearly gatea" of the mooth always spotless, ant tho breath always fragrant, it is only necessary t< use the SOZODONT daily. tuthsS MABSDBN'S] PECTORAL BALM, for Coughs, Colds Consumption.
