" * ; We were led into this strain of thought on seeing an article in last Saturday's Courrier dct Etats Unis, on "The Annexation of Belgium.'*' M. OLLIVIEU," in his speech in the. Corps L?gis? latif, March 15, said "France ought not to have one hand constantly stretched toward the Rhineland the other toward Belgium; and for this he said there was one reason stronger than all the rest; and it is this, that the populations of those territories do not desire annexation." The Courrier des Etats Unis takes M. ?LLTXIEB severely to task for so indiscreet an utter? ance. It denies the premise, and will not as? sent to " his conclusion. It: maintains, on tho. contrary, that if Belgium were consulted, like Savoy and Nice, by the voice of universal suf? frage, a large majority would vote in favor of annexation to France.
