HOMICIDE AT SELMA.-Tho Columbas Enquirer hos verbal reports of a lamentable affair at Selma, Alabama. A young man named Milton Malone, formerly of that vicinity, is reported as having killod a Federal officor_at Selma, in a difficulty be? or was arrostcd by, the civil authorities, but ne was afterwards demanded by some military officor and given up to tho military power. It is said, howover, that able counsol at Montgomery would make an. effort to have the case, and the custody of tho prisoner, remanded to the civil authority. "We have hoard none of the circumstances connect? ed with tho killing. MEETING OF FUEEDMEN ON THE FIFE (SOUTH CAROLINA COAST) PLANTATION-ADDBESSES OF GEN. SCOTT AND CHAPLAIN FBENOH TO THEM.-A largo mass mooting of freedmen, assembled from tue various plantations opposite our city, was held yesterday on the plantation of Mr. Fife. Several planters were present. Tho people were addressed by Gen. Scott --.nd Chaplain French. The ques? tions that had caused so much confusion wore fully explained; with the rights and privileges of both the landholders and the freedmen. Such freedmen as held laud certificates under Geu. Sherman's order oxpressed entire vrillingness to accept leases of twenty acre tracts on the Port Royal islands. We ore informed a mutual good feeling seemed very general between tho freedmen and planters at the close of the meeting- Tho former expressed a willingness to make contracts with tho planters, or remov? at once, and give place to others who were disposed to labor cn lower terms. Both classes seeta- d to regret taut bad counsel? lors and tho pernicious teaeiiir.gs of the notorious Bradlev, who had been among the freedmen, were heeded, as to farm alone ctn bo directly traced the origin of all tho recent troubles. General Neide, who has just reported to General Scott, has been placed cn duty with Captain Brand!? JIU- V.^T._ Quite a number of the leading planters and mer ohants of pur State were present yesterday at the trial of the steam-plow imported by Messrs. Long? street, Owen & Co. The trial took place at the fair grounds of tho Mechanics* and Agriealtural Association, and the apparatus, under the direc? tion of Mr. Max Ey th, late engineer in chief to the Pacha of Egypt, evinced to the fullest satisfaction pf ali present its wonderful capacity as a marvel loufaly complete and effective agricultural imple? ment. Some of our most extensive planters who were pr?sent ?t the trial were enraptured with the swiftness and accuracy with which it performed its work, albeit the ground was unfavorably adapted to a true and fair exhibit of its powers.
