MNTJAUT 10.1 COTTON.-At the commencement of the week, under improving news from the English market, hotders of the staple were very firm, factors . demanding extreme rates, and Middling Cotton reaching Mc. ? ; prices here, however, having become too high in proportion to those existing at other paints, buyers soon withdrew, or were only witting to continue at a decline cf 2c. ? Sellers resisted this fatting off in price, and for several days the transactions were extremely limited, but factors in some cases having concluded to meet the market, a moro active demand rprimg np, and- tran Baerl ona have since been to a fair extant at the decline. Tho'receipts of Cotiottforthe week have bean 4697 bales, say 683 bales Sea Island and Floridas' and Alie bales Upland, against 1^38 bales, viz.-176 bales Sea Inland and 6462 bales of Upland-the week before. The stock of Clean Bice on the market has become quite small. The transactions have. boen some 400 tierces of Carolina Clean Rice at about previous rates. We learn of the following salea: 116 tierces at 8J?c.;134 at 8J?C.; 68 at 8;ic, and 21 at 8 7-iOc 9 tb. We quote Inferior and Broken at 7%@7J?c? Fair to Common Primo 8@8>?c, and Prime at 8J?@8>?c lb. Tester day, in consequence of the very limited supply on the market, 30 tierces changed hands at 8 0-16c. ? lb. NAVAL STORES.-Ibero has been no arrivals of Boam or Crude Turpentine, and there baa been no sales. There was a small arrival of Spirits, and some sales of this article took place at 57c $ gallon. . BAT.-There has boen no arrivals since our last state? ment, but there continues to bp an ample stock on the market. No wholesale transactions have taken place, the sales having been only in retail lots. We continue our former quotations, with the remark that they are en? tirely nominal, say for North River S1.40@LB0 9 hun? dred, and $1.55@1.C0 for Eastern. CORN.-Tho receipts amount to 10,000 bushels prime Baltimore, 40OO bushelslWhite Maryland waa sold, in bulk, at 81.23 per bushel cash; 6000 bushels, part in bulk, sold at $1.22@L25 per bushel, and part in bags sold at $L29@L33 per bushel. We quote White Maryland, in bulk, at S1.22@I-25 per bushel; do. in bogs, at S1.29? 1.33 par bushel. There continues to be a steady demand for plantation consumption. OATS-Are very dull, and the only demand at pres? ent is to supply a limited local consumption. The arti? cle in bags may be quoted at about 80c per bushel, nominal. January 6_COTTON.-The market opened with a limited inquiry, and has continued quiet throughout the day. There was -a fair assortment on sale, and factors exhibited increasee anxiety to realize, but Bteadily refused to modify .their pretensions:?wh?e buyers, tn view of the ..unfavorable tenor of the advices from Liverpool and New York, were evidently indisposed :to operate unless at concessions.
