ADAMS, the sufferer by tho late accident on tho Stroot Railway, died from the injuries received on that occasion. At an inquest held by Magistrate KANAPAUX dur? ing the absence of Coroner WHTTINO, the following verdict was returned : 'That said EUGENE L. ADAMS came to his death from a wound received in his head on Wednesday, thc 10th inst., from thc running away of a pair of horses attached to the 1 Street Railroad cars, aud tho iury attach no blame to the employees of said road." THE STREET RAILROAD.-Thc Coroner's Jury summoned to decide thc cause of Mr. E. L. ADAMS' death have exonerated tho Street Railroad from all blame. While wc deploro the melancholy accident, it is still a matter of rojoicing to know that tho unfortunate youth did not come to his death by any carelessness on tho part of tho em? ployees of tho road. Such an accident is liable to any similar corporation, and we fcol convinced that the greatest caro was talion to provont any occur? rence of this sort. Tho rules aud regulations of the railroad aro clearly defined, and, as far as wo know, have been fully obeyed ; but neither the drivers or conductors aie ablo to guard against such accidents as that which caused thc death of Mr. ADAMS. AH ACT OP HEROISM.-On last Friday, whilo Mr. yf. CREASER, of this city, was proceeding ou board of the steamer Adele, the gangway plank beeame detached from thc vessel and Mr. C. slipped and fell between he boat and tho wh?rf. Although an expert swimmer, the circumscribed space prevent? ed him exorcising himself, and he was drawn down by the suction of the vessel. Mr. WM. C. REDD, the chief officer of tho steamer, noticing the dis? aster, immediately went to tho rosene, and it is owing to his humane efforts an i timely assistance that Mr. CREASER was saved. By grasping a friend? ly arm and lowering himself to tho water's edge he was enabled to seize Mr. C. as he was about to sink for the last timo. Mr. REID'S act was ono of personal daring, for he was aware that thc drown? ing struggles of Mr. CREASER would probably pull him down. SOUTH CAROLINA RAILROAD BONDS.-Thc Audi? tor of tho South Carolina Railroad, ht anothor column of THE NEWS this morning, announces that the Company is prepared to pay all tho inter? est duo on thefr coupons for January, 18C7. Tho foreign debt of $2,000,000 has been similarly pro? vided for in London. Wc arc sincerely glad to be able to record this. Tho business of the Com? pany is Bteadidly improving, os our readers may have noticed, from thc veiw largo receipts of cotton daily published for some weeks past. On Saturday last no less than 1714 bales reached Charleston over this road. The South Carolina Railroad Company ha vo had a Jong and tough struggle with tho bequest of debt and destruction left them by thc closing of the war. But its friends will bo p cased to loam that tho damages to road, depots, station houses, bridges and rolling stock, has been generally repaired, and that too without adding by loans to tho debt of the Company, which, liko many individu?is, put its shoulders to tho wheel and worked out-no thanks to HERCULES. The stockholders, wc take it, have coucluded to be just (to others) before thoy can afford to bo generous (to themselves). Another six months may put them in a position to treat themselves once moro to a semi-annual dividend. We should be glad to record similar success of all our Rail? road Companies. MAYOR'S COURT, December 31.-Three men, who had got into a fight'at the solicitation of John Bar? leycorn, Esq.. at a low dow n bar-room, but who ?were stopped before much harm was done, wero brought up, and two of thom were fined $2 each, and the other discharged. A belligerent young man, who got drank on Sun? day, and was searching about for some one to tread on his coat tail, was fined $3. An individual, who no doubt is looking forward to an 'Indian Agency," wts fined $5 for practicing the war whoop in King street, at 2 o'clock in tho morning. Abram Simmons, a colored citizen, who had vis? ited the market on Saturday night with thc evi? dent intention of making a bald, and seoing nothing better within reach than a buggy and horse, the vehicle loaded with provision?, standing at the outside waiting for its owner, kindly con? sented to put up with these trilles, aud so jump lag in drove off, quito Lloasod with his speculation. .T.?e horse>nd buggy have 6?nco boon found, but tho "witties" which freighted thc enrriago aro mi est invenlus. THE STREET BRIGADE.-On yesterday morning, ?hen we observed this flue body of men, properly aimed and accoutred, though uot in uniform, making their appearance on tho streets, it gave us great pleasuro-for wo wore under the impression that the crossings in tho business parta of the city ?were to be cleaned, and the loads of slimy mud which a person has to pass through when his affairs call him from one side of thc street to the other, were about to be removed with their shovels and spades. On Sunday, as well as on yesterday, the flagstones across tho streets wcro not only slippery, but exceedingly dangerous to pedestrians, who had to step with more than ordinary care to avoid a eevero fall: and wo would really suggest to the authorities that in such weather aa we have had lately that these spots should bc continually cleansed, and made safe for passers by. As the brigade seemed to bc anxious, on yesterday, to clear the mud and dirt from every other part than the crossings wo spealc of, it struck us that we should drop them this gentle hint to think of when they go in quarters. POSTPONEMENT.- Thc entertainment advertised to come off at Trinity Church this evening has been postponed on account of tho inclemency of the weather, until Friday night.
