OF TROOPS.-for the past three months there have been no soldiers at this post, and every thing has beon going on quietly with hbe excep? tion of the usual cases of larceny and misdemea? nors-whioh everywhere occur. In all cases the magistrates and sheriff have promptly done their duty m. arresting otfonders against the laws. East night' a detachment of soldiers, numbering some ten or twelve, came on the cars, and one of the party (a sergeant we behove), signalized his ar? rival by knocking one of the railroad negroes on the head with his gun. The gentleman in charge of the road hands informed him that he would be thrashed L> the negroes if he did not "regulate himself where? upon the military hero remarked that he had heard about Orangeburg.; that he felt himself just at that moment competent- to whip any white man in Sooth Carolina, but as to the black niggers, he did not disgrace himself by fighting them,.but would shoot them. HOBSE STEAXJNG.-A short time ago three horses, belonging to Mr. Dantzler, Mr. Moorer, and Dr. Hiiiloj, were stolen from a house in St. Matthews' Parish, about twelve miles from town.
