We take pleasure in laying before our readers thia morning the subjoined carefully prepared ros? ter of the South Carolina soldiers buried in Char? lottesville, Va. Tho list should be carefully pre? served, as it -will be useful for reference : NINETY-SIX, ABBEVILLE DIST., S. C., > December 20,18G6. J Mr. Editor: Accompanying this yon will find a list of the South Carolina soldiers who are buried at the University Graveyard, near Charlottesville. Va. The public aro indebted to Mr. Scharf, artist at the University of Virginia, who, after six months of constant work, gathered from the various hos ?ital records the names of all the Confederate ead who are buried at the University Graveyard, arranged them alphabetically, and drawing a plan of the yard, by which any grave can be found; tho numbers refer to thc grave; those left blank have been removed. It may be well for me here to state that the Lite? rary Societies of the University of Virginia, the Washington and Jefferson, are endeavoring to erect a monument to thc Confederate dead at that place. To farther their work, they hope and ex? pect aid from all the States. Committees were appointed for most of the States; I am not certain, but think there is no eommitteo for this State. All persons desiring to aid them in their noble work can do so by enclosing tho amount and directing it to tho Jefferson Society of the University of Vir? ginia.
