THE MACON AND BBUNBWIOK' RAILBOAD.-Tl Brnnswiok Courier informs us that the municip authorities of that place, with the expressed coi sent of the, people, nave increased their aubsori tion to th9 capital stock of the road to three hui dred thousand dollars. The President, Mr. Hazl horst, assured the citizens that with that add tional amount of stook, he thought there could 1 no difficulty in makiog arrangements for the pu chase of the iron and the laying down of tl track-the grading being almost completed and matter of minor importance. Mr. Heard is highly spoken of by the An gusta press, and will prosecute the work witl rigor.-Ibid. j COMMITTED FOB MURDEH_Three of the negroe arrested, viz :' Smart Blake alias Smart Cum minga, Samuel Field and Donald McDonald, wer examined before Justico John A. t?taley, yester * day morning, charged with the murder of Wm Alford, the particulars of which we have already published. There were some eighteen negroei arrested as witnesses ia the oase, all ' of whom, with the exception of three women, were released after the examination. The witnesses testified that after the negroes had secured Mr. Alford, McDonald placed him in' position and gave the command to fire, when the negroes whoso names are mentioned above, and two others, who have not been arrested yet. discharged their muskets, Killing Mr. Alford almost instantly. After a careful and impar? tial investigation of the case, the evidence being positive, Justice Staley committed the three negro nen, aa well as the three negro women, to jail tho men to await their trial before the January % term of the Superior Court, for the offence of murder, and.the women as. important witnesses intheoase. It ia said that Smart Blake was'tried, some time ago, before the Military Oourt, on the charge of murdering a negro woman, but the evidence not being conclusive against him, he was discharged. [Ibid. ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO COMMIT MUBDEB. Robert Oliver, a colored man. was arrested by the police yesterday afternoon, charged with commit? ting an assault upon tho person of W. F. Bisbee, ? colored man, with intent to commit murder. Oliver, it appears, had been drinking, and meet? ing Bisbee in a house, & conversation occurred between them, during which, and without any previousiprovooation, Oliver jumped up and drew a knife and ran up to Bisbee and stabbed him in the head, causing a painful, though, it ia thought, not a dangerous wound. A policeman being in the vicinity at the time, end hearing the disturb? ance, arrested Oliver and carried him before Jus? tice Staley, who, afteF hearing, thu facts: of the case, committed him to jail iu default of bail, to await an examination.-Ibid. PICKPOCKET ARRESTED.-J. W. Williams, a noted thief, who has by ?umu contrivance managed to cheat the penitentiary, of a convict for several years, waa. arrested in the market yesterday m?rniDg. Williams had been a oloso observer of C. Beasley, a young oountrymni, who was dispos? ing of his produce from his cart in the market. Noticing Beasley making chango, and observing which pooltet he placed his money in, he watched his chanco and slipped his hand in Beasley's pocket and drew out the roll of money, about twenty dollars. After committing the theft, Wil? hams was about making off, when he was arrest? ed by the market policeman, having been Been to take the money.-Ibid. SCHOONER VETO.-The schooner Veto, bound from Indianola, Texas, for New York, and whioh ?>ut into Tybee in distress on Sunday last, waa owed up to the city yesterday morning. Capt. Tuthill, of tho Veto, reports: Ootober 2d, in Ut. 80 deg. N., lon. 79 deg, and 10 min. W., while hove to in a gale of wind from the N. E., tho sec? ond officer of tho vessel, B. S. Miller, of Miller's Place, L. I., was washed overboard and lost. At 2 P. M. the gale Iud increased to a hurricane. A heavy sea struck the jibboom, which carried away bobstays, bowsprit^ shrouds, foremast-head, the main and mizzenmast going by the board at the ' same time. The vessel lost all sails and rigging. [Ibid. ANOTHEB MABINS DISASTEB.-The British bark Stampede, Captain Jowett, from New York, bound to Havana, with a cargo of Irish potatoes, put in below yesterday morning, in distress. The Stam? pede waa exposed to the Bevere gale of the 3d for thirty-six hours. Sho lost her maintopmast, top gallantmast, also, her yards, sails, and jibboom. [Ibid. COMMITTED.-Henrv Garrett, a negro, was com? mitted to jail by J m?tico Smith yesterday to await an examination on the charge of stealing a sign board from its fastenings in front of the thoo maker shop of Daniel Rollie.-Ibid. DAWSONVILLE.-We learn that ?hi? ia a remark? able little country village, situated ia the. moun? tains of Northeastern Georgia, where the people breathe pure air and drink cold mountain water. What is remarkable about thie town is, that there is not a retail liquor grocery in the place, and not an ind.vidual citizen of the place twelve years cf age but who belongs to the church. The place has a population oi from 200 to 300 inhabitants. Thoro is certainly no discount on the morality of this place,-Carlersv?le Express. A DISTINGUISHED VISITOR.-Gen. Jos. E. John? ston Was in our city on Thursday last, acting in the interests of the Selma and Dalton Railroad Company. He is in fine health and spirits, and we understand speaks hopefully in regard to the early completion of this great railroad connection.
