This Association was chartered by Act | of Legislature passed 21st day of December, 1861. LENGNIOK & SELL.-This firm, at the northeast corner of Meeting and Market-streets, opened yesterday their Fall stock of millinery and straw ? and fancy goods, and had a large attendance of dealers iu the mapy articles that ladies delight not only to look upon and examine, but also to purchase. Late in the day we dropped in our? selves, and have never boon do pleased with the appearance of a atook or the arrangement of goods as with thia. The "loree" of bonnets and beautiful hats-the splendid ribbons of all colors and shades, and the bursting buds and full blown flowers that are so naturally imitated, as to make one think he is looking upon natives and exotica just sprung from earth-make up a picture that to be appreciated must be aeon. These articlea are but a tithe of the large and varied stock which filia their establishment, and which contains every kind of goods that ladies have use for. In the third story of this building we were kindly shown a large and elegant supply, reoently imported, of German fancy. goods and French I perfumery, of the finest quality. Among the for? mer we observed some segar stands of beautifuj design and finish, really objeots of curiosity, There were also toys of every kind for ohildren, as well'as useful articles for men, and we left the store perfeotly impressed that their establish? ment contains the prettiest and largest stock of any store of the kind in the South. THE NEEDLE-GDN.-Everybody throughout the civilized world has by this time heard of the won? derful achievements of the Prussian needle-gun. Whether or not the quick, aharp war just ended in Bohemia was owing exclusively to the Zund nadel-gewehr, or not, is immaterial. It is very certain the needle-gun exerted a very potent iu fluence in bringing the war to so speedy a ter? mination. We aU naturally have our curiosity exoited to see so wonderful an instrument: and those of our readers who take an intelligent interest in a fine piece of mechanism, we are glad to be able to an? nounce, may have their curiosity gratified by stepping into Mr. SIEGLINO'S store (entrance in Beaufain street, next to the corner of King street). The inventor and maker ?of this weapon is a re? lative of our venerable townsman, Mr. JOHN SIEG? LING. Mr. CHARLES SIEGLING, nephew of the lat? ter, bas imported a very superb double-barrelled needle-shot-gun. Mr. S. very politely showed us this beautiful chef d'eeuvre in all its constituent parts, as well as in its entirety; how to handle it. and all about it. The finish is equal to the finest | of WESLEY RICHARDS'. The materials of the bar? rels of L?ttichau Damast. It is made by VON j DREYSE, in Sommerda, near Erfurt, where the j great Prussian armory is located. The barrels move on a spiral hinge to the right, whioh exposes the lower end of the barrel, where j the cartridge is to be placed. This same move? ment also cooks the gun, pushing baok the needle. | The cartridge fits air-tight into the barrel; an in? dia-rubber coat prevents any gas from escaping backwards. The needle is pushed forward through a small aperture in the centre of the look, into the fulminating powder. The whole process of loading need not take j over four or five seoonds. The gun can be carried loaded with perfect security, by the fastening of a spring, whioh "halt-cocka" the gun, as it were. Mr. S. has shot with it at a target, at the distance of 100 yards, without any elevation, and had the ? if satisfaction of seeing several of his cartridges j within the oirole. For further particulars we refer our readers to Mr. SIEGLING, who will show them the gun, aad explain all RB workings. Mr. S. has been appoint? ed the agent, and as he is desirous lo introduce ! the weapon to the public generally, he proposes to raffle thia splendidly finished needle-shot-gun at $5 a chance. There will be 50 chances. MAYOR'S COURT, September 10.-A man who was picked up in the Btreet at night, playing very discordantly an old tune upon his nasal organ, and carried to tho Guard House in a staggering condition, and who insisted that his weakness of legs resulted from sleepiness, was fined $5 for having such legs. . Another individual, who could only let off bis steam by whooping and yelling, was fined $5 t?t this innocent and interesting amusement. The prisoner paid up, hut growled a good deal, say? ing, with some truth, that it was a hard case he should be mado to pay $5 for a whoop or two in a lane, when thousands are on the streets every day that are not fined. A drunken Irishman, who said he never used liquor, was made to pay $5 for letting liquor use him as it did. . , Two publicans, who retail the best of forty-yard whiskey, and who have such a run of custom that they can't afford to close on Sunday, for fear of hurting the feelings of some of their friends, were fined $20 each, as a compliment to them, for their devotion to business. The South Carolina Railroad Company was fin? ed $10 for obstructing the pavements of several I of the streets in the Upper Wards. PEOVOST COUBT, September 10.-Sophia Butler, a colored damsel of very taking appearance, especially about the hands, was arraigned for | stealing calicoes and baby clothes from one Mar? garet Bush, valued at $50 ; and although the prosecution had some of them returned, still the prisoner was honored with a fine of $200, and an imprisonment of five months at hard labor. It Btrikes us that we have heard the name of Butler connected with stealing before, though we can't be positive. Adam Singleton, a promising yonng man of ] color, who, wishing to know the value of time, stole, some weeks ago, a box of watches from a gentleman in King street, and Belling them for I greenbacks, discovered that "time is money," and | both can be spent liberally, so he let himself out, and was just having a jolly frolic when he was nabbed and put by the Court at hard labor in the streets for six months. George Washington, an illustrious darkey, was ! fined $5 or ten days' labor, for stealing a piece of meat. MEALS ABOLISHED.-We oopy from an exchange the following interesting paragraph, knowing well that the poor will be very thankful to us for the agreeable informat ion : A Peruvian plant, the Erythoxylon Coca, has' been found, by experiment, to possess the pro? perty of quelling the sensations of hunger and thirHb for several days. As we feel satisfied that a large quantity of this Erythoxylon Coca will be brought into tho city in a very Bhort time, we advise the keepers of hotels ; and restaurants, to reduce their ratest of fare at once. SELF BETRAYED.-The little clique of Dentists who would fain disparage the Sozodont, betray, by their own foolish fretfulness, tho faot that tho preservative properties of this pure Vegetable Antiseptic are its real offence.
