Kenedy, a nephro, who prides himself somewhat on his oratorical powers, "was brought up before his Honor yesterday morn? ing, charged with being driuiK near tho market on Saturday afternoon; also with fighting in tho streets and resisting a police oflioer. {venedy ac? knowledged the i harpes, and stilted that his rea? son for rt Histing a policeman was. that he didn't think they had any right to collar him. Perhaps, to his mind's pye, the policeman had no right to collar a dandified colored gcmman like him ; nevertheless, as the police aro empowered to col? lar all refractory characters, white or black, when under arrest, and Keued.v's argument not holding good, ho was lined twenty dollars or to be placed on the chain gan? for thirty days. Thc* prisoner, on hearing his sentence, sta'ed in a contemptuous manuer that there was no chain gang for him, .whereupon he was called back, to his great chagrin and surprise, and sentenced, in addition to the iiret senteuce, to bo imprisoned for three months. Thia is the same individual who, a short time since, swore in the Mayor's Court that ho was up in the third story o' a colored billiard room, and that a negro man who bad fired a pinol within a lew feet of a policeman, ahout niuo o'clock at night, was not the niau.-Savannah News. A DISORDERLY CHARACTER.-Quite a disturbance j ?was created iu the streets on Sunday last by F. Ficklin, a negro. Ho first went to "t he colored ? church on New-Street and created a disturbance, as he said, in order to get hu wife out. The con- j gregation being disturbed hy him, a number of the men came out, when Ficklin picked up several brickbats and began to pelt the crowd. A colored man having called upou a policeman to airest Ficklin, he refusal to bo arrested, ?nd used the . most indecent language to him. A sergeant of ' the police soon came to his assistance, and the obstreperous negro was conveyed to the police barrack*. On arriving there he was very abusive to the officers wi.o arre?ted him, as woll as to tho officers at tho barracks. On being brought be? fore his Honor the Mayor, yesterday morning, he j ?was charged ?ith four offences, viz: Disorderly conduct in the church on New-street. 2d. Dis-1 orderly conduct on the streets. 3d. Abusing offi? cers iu tho discharge of their duty. -4th. Disor? derly conduct in the office at the police barracks. All of these charges being clearly proven against him, be was sentenced to thirty days on the chain fang for oach offence, making in all one tmudrt d nd twenty days for his half hour's sport.-Ibid. HORSE STEALING.-TWO mules were stolen from the stable of D. J. Williams, near Liberty Hill, in Jidge?eld District, on Munday night. The mules were tracked from the lot across tho plantation, and seven miles ou tho road toward this city, where two men-one an Irishman and one a negro had them in charge. They protended to be going to Edgefield 0. H., but did not take the road iii that direction. On .yesterday the police of the city were on tho alert, and it ia to be hoped that the scamps may be apprehended. Ooo ot the mules is grey, with a stiff right foro leg, and the | other is a sorrel color. A horse wa? Btoien from Dr. H. M. Cumming, on tho Sand Hills, on the night of the 4th inst. A MURDER IN SOCIAL CIRCLE.-A most shocking murder was perpetrated here last night, about j fifteen minutos b> fore eight o'clock P. M. .While ? JMr. J. M. Harulson was sitting at his desk in his store, some pt-raon came to the door and shot | him, the ball entering tho loft breast, passing through the body aud lodging just under the ekin , in the right arm two or three incheB below th? point of the right shoulder. The ball was taken out by Dr. Gil? .a, and Avas a minnie ball. No clue as to the murderer, though a person waa seen to run off immediately after the firing of the gun. [Augusta Constitutionalist. Peter Goode, indignantly refuses to go. In a letter to the Advertiser, Ndd says : ^'This is my couutry. I know no other, neither, do I wish to. I have never known othar friends than these. I have been a slave and have tried I to do my duty, and what little knowledge I have j .picked up' haH never been used except for the I Wnefit ot my friends and my country. My head now shows the froati of seventy winters.
