The steamers Planter and Sampson, from this port
for Baltimore, have arrived at Wilmington, N C. The
Wilmington Journal, ot Saturday, makes the following
statement about the stoamor Planton "We notice the
arrival of the Government steamer Piantor k-to our
port a few days since from Charleston, S C. The Plan?
ter, during the war, while in possession of the Confede?
rate authorities in Charleston harbor, was seized by the
black portion of her crew during tue absence of her offi?
cers, aud conveyed to the blockading squadron oft that
harbor. They wore enabled to pass the forts by means
of tho signait then in use, which wero known to their
pilot. The negleot of dutv on the part of the captain
and officers, in leaving their steamer iu oharge of the
orew, subjected them to the censure of the Confederate
Government but, we think, no attempt was ever made
to bring them to trial "
