This road, it will be remembered, wa almost entirely destroyed, in February, 1865, froc Columbia to Blaokatocks?a distance of more tha: fifty miles. The officers had innumerable diffioul ties to contend with, but having gone manfully t work, surmounted them all. The greater part c tho road was relaid .with the old Iron, after th "klnkan were taken out?and how this difficult jo could be so successfully accomplished, in a myi tery; for it really seemed that Sbeumak's me understood the business thoroughly, as some i the bars resembled augera in appearance, whi others again were twined lovingly around tl neighboring trees. The magnificent iron bridf over the Catawba, we are informed, will be con pleted in a week or ten days, when passengers ca a be conveyed through' without change of oars." > O a }.
