NEW ORLEANS, April 13.-COTTON -There was a lair Inquiry noticeable at the opening of the market this mirc'ni, with some prospect of a moderate, if not an average business. But owing to the heavy operations of yesterday, offiiinga wore unusuilly light and factors de? manded still more stringent prices, which tended to re? strict operations. Some small sales transpired during the forenoon, nevertheless, at an advance on yesterday's rates; but the upward movement wis checked at an early hour by a reduction in the demand for and rates of Foreign Exchange, which, however, was moro fully de? veloped after the receipt ot the regular noon dispatcher to the Press announcing a considerable docUne in rates of Gold at >ew Yi rk, while private dispatches subse? quently received represent a material failing off in rates of foreign bil's at the North, and countermanded pre? vious orders to buy, whi'.h had been previously received In this market As may ba readily Inferred, the demand for cotton soon abated after the intelligence referred to became generally known, and prices fed oft to yesterday's closing figures, at which rates only a few hundred bales changed hands during thc latter part of thc day. Tho aggregate sales foct np only 1500 bales, divided among tan buyers, and the movement was almost exclusively restricted to the purchase of small lots for filling up previous lista. We repeat last evening's quotations, with the remark that the market closed unsettled at these figures: Ordi? nary, 30 to 32c; good ordinary, 33 to 34c; low middling, 35 to 36c; middling, 39 to 40c. MANCHESTER, Tuesday, April 3 -The depression ii tho yarn and cloth market caused by the heavy arrival nt cotton continues, and ii somowhat intensified by th rapid accumulation of stock. A few weeks ago the ?toe: in Liverpool was only about 300,000 bales, against ove: 600,000 last year. Yesterday tho stock had increased it Liverpool to ?30 000 bules as compared with 552,001 1 'st year. A change of such importance naturally in daces buyers to rauses little before entering onnev engagements. In the department of shipping yarns tin market has been very quiet to-day, but some of thc Ger mans, being under the impression that the Austrian ani Prussian quat rel ls likely to be ari ut-ged satisfactorily this week, have ventured to givo out some pressing or durs for Immediate delivery. Some ot' the India Louee: I havo also ventured to moko low oflors-too low, how ever, to meet with acceptance, and they have not led t( business. The market for these yarns cir ses with a better feel lng than oil. ted st its opeuiug this morning, and witt more disposition to business. For home trudo yarns there has not been much inquiry, and prices are teuilins decidedly in favor of buyers. Spinners having Ptocks are more anxions to sell. As regards cloth, lu addition to tho quietness and inactivity lucideutal to the holiday season, we have a very general depression lu tho mar? ket, and quite an absence of operations. There ls a de? cline in the valuo of all sorts of goods, but we hear ol nothing being done of sufficient importance to estab? lish any very reliable quotations. Buyers are holding entirely aloof, though sellers generally are not by any means (owinir to previous orders; as yet reduced to the position of being compelled to press for new contracts, or to fores the goods any of them havo In stock unduly upon the market. There aro many of them, however, willing to take a considerable reduction in price.
