There are 37,000 churches in the United States. They will hold 14,000,000 people. A young lady just out of her teens is the Latin and Greek Professor of a Kansas College. The revenue of the English Established Church is annually $300,000,000. There are twenty thou sand clergymen. .On the 23d ult., a fire occurred in the City of Mexico, which destroyed property to the amount of $300,000. * The Tycoon has sent several young Japanese to Russia to learn the language, and to study naval and military science. The French Minister of Marino has issued a decree makiDg Cherbourg a port of the first class, ranking next to Toulon and Brest. A late English paper says ! "Last week there sailed from Hull the bark Trvclove to the Davis Straits whale fisheries. Mr. Vallahdioham is in Washington, and giveB j cheering accounts of the groat Democratic revival in Ohio, and through tho Western Statesgenorally. The Emperor of Morocco has notified the French Government of his intention of makiDg a com mercial port of Saffi, a town on the Atlantic, about eighty miles from Mogadorc, and has asked that some French engineers might be tent him to assist in carrying out the undertaking. Tho New Tork papers of the 14th, received last night, announces in flowing capitals, and sensa tion style, the first battle on the New Brunswick border, between English soldiers and American citizens and Fenians. The affair has already been announced by telegraph in our paper of yester day. A Caban gentleman, named Francisco de Sam J?an, who died recently, left his entire estate, valued at $400,000, to a Spanish female school, with a provision in his will that if the Spanish Government shall in any manner interfere with the legacy it shall revert to the United States Government. The Washington Chronicle gives ihe following as the list of vetoes issued since the formation of the Government: By Geoboe Washington, 2; by Jaues Madison, 6; by James Monboe, 1; by An dbew Jackson, 9; by John Tytjsb, 4; by Jajces K. Polk, 3; by Jakes Buchanan, 1: by Andrew John son, 2. The Saturday Review, by its comments on Pre sident Johnson's 22d of February speech, shows that some Englishmen are as fastidious as our own Ja.-obine?or nbom John Van Buben plausi bly sugjested that their displeasure at Mr. John son's lack of "dignity" was owing to their having been spoiled by the high aristocratic tone of his predecessor. A meeting of citizens was held in Gordonsville, Ta., on the 1st of April, to devieo measure.'* for ihe purchase of a suitable lot, near Gordonsville, to which the remains of the late Confederate dead who have been buried in tho counties of Orange, Green, Madison and LouiAa may be removed, and said cemetery to be so laid out and beautified as to make it a suitable tribute to our noble dead. An exchange asks: "Is Stephens a myth? Every day we hear something about Stephens. He ie in London; he is in Paris; he is coming to America; he has arrived in New York; ho is at Bermuda; he has been discovered in Canada. Is there any such person? The new'ocean sternner, City of Paris, on the Inman line (Liverpool, N. Y., ai.d Philadelphia steamship company), is*aid to bo the tinest and perfect specimen ?f nuval architecture. She was launched in Glasgow in December lust. She iu 373 feet long, 40 broad, 27 deep; of 2800 tons, old measurement. She has been built expressly for speed and safety in the carriage of tho United States mail. This compuuy now own sixteen splendid ocean steamers. The Msnajunk Wood Paptr Pulp Works, in Philadelphia, are one of tho great novelties of tho day. The works uro very extensive, costing about $600,000, and situated on the Schujlkill River. A, large number of capitaliste, journalists, etc. visited the establishment a few days ago and were highly charmed. A poplar tree was taken from the hillside for their benefit, and converted into clear, white, soft paper, in the space of five hours. A banquet was |>iven }a the evening by Messrs. Jisscp and Moore, at the. Continental Hotel, to abuui 200 quests. The Fenian S> uate is iu session, busy?preparing for the approaching sit ug?lo. President Robzbts has been in Washington. The Fenian War De partment is bsrd ut work, organizing and prepar ing for a tight. General T.wts has his hands full attending to the duties of the A"j itant General's office. Money is pV-rjring in, and the circles are responding with enthusiasm. A great Fenian Fair was opened last i.ight at tho Gei mania Assembly Rooms. The arrangements of the Fair are uuder the enperviei >u of Misa Eu. -.n Malont, a noble Irish girl, who has devoid 1 er life and iutelleci to the redemption of tho land of ner birth. The agreement is thereforo terminated. CATHCART, McMTT.T.AN & MOETON. April 6, 1866. A TRI-WEEKLY.' Many of our friends have apoken and written to ue concerning the publication of a Tri-Weekly. We have thought of doing this for eome time, but owing to the general disarrangement of postal af fairs, we have concluded not to do so until the commencement of next season. On tha first of September we will commence to publish a country edition of Tue News, and it a hall be our aim to mako the paper the best ever issued in thib State. Wo intend introducing en tirely new featnres in this enterprise; it will not be a summary of tbe daily, but will bo compl?t? and original in itBolf, and we arc certain that its patrons will be as well pleased with it as axe our present patrons pleased with the daily. TI1E FENIANS. However people may differ in their opinions, as to'the wisdom of Ibe plans tho Fenians propose to carry iDto execution;?whatever Ihey may think about the feasibility of said projects; one thing is certain, and will be disputed by no one, vi?: that tbo Fenian* have succeeded in creating a most tremendous stir through tho whole length and breadth of tho land. Their might, their proweae, their epeeches, quarrels, and campaigns by land and by eca, are heralded forth iu every paper,? and wafted across the St. Lawrenco and Atlantic* They are read with anxious Bag emeu and trom bling dread by the frightened Canadian and the uneasy, would-be-contemptuous Briton. Tliey are hailed with delight, as an earnest of better times coming, by the Irish everywhere; by tho poor down-trodden sens of the toil in the old green isle of Saints, and by the unhappy host of sympathiz ing exiles of Erin, wherever found all over tbe habitable globe. Kngw-nothingism, iu its day, made a great fnss in tbo country ; the Wide Awakes had great torch light proceseions ; the Union League Clubs make considerable pre'eneione, and do their beet to keep themselves before the public eye. Rut Fenianism has thrown them all into the shade. The Fenian Brotherhood is triumphant. The organization is secret ; we, as outsiders, of course can know noth ing certain of their motives and objects, or of tbe means set on foot to carry tbeir plans into execu tion. We know, however, that great enthusiasm pervades tbe heart of every patriotic Irishman at the bare mention of the "Fenian Brotherhood.') We hear that Fenian Bouda are buoyant in the money market, selling at a premium, and that the Treasury of the Irish Republio in New York receives heavy consignments of treasure with every steamer from California, to say nothing; of tbe bums flowing in daily by mail and express from all parts of tbe land. We hear there is a Fenian fleet afloat off the coast of New Brunswick, and the long-mooted and vexed Fishery question may perchance be incidentally settled. An army is being rapidly re cruiied, (headquarters iu New York,) Generals Killian and Sinxoit are marshalling their hosts. The telegraph now tells us they have taken Campo Belio, and the greatest excitement pre vails all over the land in consequence. The natu ral question arises: What next? What is the next move ? Of course the Council of War in New York has planned out the whole campaign. Some think the army will ocenpy the Canadas, sup ported by the fh et in the St. Lawrence and the Lakes ; others say that the fleet has gone to Ber muda. The movement is important, and we hope that nothing will be done rashly. The invasion of England is a serious business, and we doubt whether tbe Fenian War Minister has sufficient resources at comm and at this time to venture on such an enterprise. We think it more probable that tho present calculation is to send a fleet, well manned, and transports filled with troops to Ireland, and count upon a great rising of tbe natives, as soon as they shall find that their deliverers liavo co no. But even this may bo sur rounded with difficulties. It is understood that there is a large foroo of lhe line at present in Ire land, and ? {.'er^t swarm of constabulary and ffOYorumon "'^^ xi? j Habeas Corpus Act, more over, beiiK Bti8p"tided) agent* of tbe hostile government tinil no difficulty to suppress eveiy thing liko rebellion in its moBt incipient, suspected state.
