March 24.-COTTON.-The market has been doll throughout the day. Only a few buyero entered the market at al!, and there seemed to be a general in? disposition tn sandle the staple. Sales were confined to 600 bales, the market closing quiet and dull at 37 to 38 cents for middling. MONETABY AND FINANCIAL-The continued steady de? cline of gold and weak market, keeps cotton low, and has upset exchanges generally. This has been especially the case for the last two days. Gold being the standard by which the other departments of busiuess are influ? enced and regulated, then can be no confidence ia the stability of prices as long as its present uncertain status continues, and hence, tho aim'-st nominal condition of quotations to day. A priv.vto dispatch received late this afternoon, from New York, quotua gold down to 125 u. and unless a reaction should take place, we may look for a farther dec Une bei e. With the remark that it is almost impossible to arrive at a true state of the market, we give the following aa the nearest approach te the rates of the day, that we could learn. The sales embrace 4000 sacks, of which 2000 mixed, in late, at 85c ; 800 at 8tic"; 1000 at 95c, and 119 do. at 98c per bushel. The Gold markit opened this morning with a more lively demand, and the sales thus far include $!500at 125and $30,000 ($3000 ia three lots, three amounts of 14000 each, two of $50u0 and $10,000), at 126. In Silver we notice ?sale of $1000, ia American hali do&irs, at 119. The sales of Foreign Exchange included ?6000 first Class sterling at 131,3 ; 50.000 good commercial francs at 4.23Vi, and SOO.O?O 41 (100100 and 200,000), at 4.26. EVENING. -Still a depression in Exchange, Gold and Cotton. Nothing doing in Loans or Discount.
