FREED WOMAN ( unknown) was found dead on Monday night last, about eight O'clock, in King street, near Horlbeck'a Alley. The Coroner, upon receiving the information, bad the body removed to the Main Guard House, and yesterday morning held the inquest; and, upon the evidence, and after a post mortem examination, performed by Dr. .SAMUEL LOGAN, tho Jury rendered a verdict tba' the said unknown frcedwoman came to her death by disease of the heart. Siuoo which time, it hae been ascertained that tho said unknewx frecd .woman is named Sophia Wilson. HOE & Co., Hoe. 29 and:31 Gold-street, Now York, through their agent in this city, Mr. JOSEPH WALKER, -whose house has been long and favorably known, as a supply depot for printers, book binders and stationers. It 'is handsomely got up, printed on fine paper, with fine engravings illustrating the different machinery manufactured by them. ITALIAN OPERA-Martha.-DE FLOTOW'S charm? ing opera of Martha was presented, last night, at Hibernian Hall, to au audience no less crowded and fashionable than that which was attracted by H J Trovatore on Monday night. Every one was on the qui eke ot pleasurable anticipation, as it had been whispered that Martha waa to be the great bill of the week. This opera owes, perhaps, itfc chief success to the circumstance that it is replete with piquant situations and sprightly dialogue. There is a certain naicelte of sentiment pervading it that cannot fail to render it attractive, especial? ly as the music is of auch a character as to be alike agreeable to thc educated and uneducated musical amateur. After le ing Charleston they will start on a tour, and g concerts (for their own benefit, it is to be hop in the-principal Southern and Western cities, turning to New York, in a few wo?ks, whon tl will give a series of matinee performances, Wallacia Theatre. The Court found defendant not guilty. Adam Jones, colored.-Cotton stealing. Georgi anna Owens, colored, testified -hat on Monda; last, while at the railroad depoi, defendant gav her a basket, the contents of which she did no know, as tho cover was so tight sho could notopei it, and she handed it to her lit tlc ??ster, directing her to carry it home; which abo was doing when t policeman stepped up and arrested her sister, ant took her to the Guard House. Policeman CASEY testified that he was on dutj at the Ann-street depot on Monday morning, anc saw a tall woman talking to a short' ons in thc yard, and saw defendant come up to them and hand a basket, which the little one took and wae going off when he called her back, and on exam? ining the basket found it contained cleaned cotton, so he arrested her and carried her to tho Guard House. Whcu witness returned neither defendant nor the tall woman were to bo seen, but defendant afterwards gave himself up. Thc Court found him not guilty. David Preemau, colored.-Drunk iu thc street. Sergeant WILSON, of tho polk?, testified that he found defendant drunk, in King-street, on Mon? day, and that he carried him to tho Guard House, j Sentenced to one dollar line, or one day's imprison? ment. Sam. Middleton, colored, was detained ia custo day, by order of the Court, as a witness in a ease of a soldier arrested for horse stealing. MAYOR'S COURT.-A very tall woman, an old of? fender, was before his Honor yesterday morning for being drunk and dancing at tho corner of Church and Broad streets; and as the present state of the pavementsdoes not admit ol'tho "trip J ping the light fantastic toe" without danger of I stumbling, she fell, when n gallant policeman I picked hor np, and assisted her io a red to thc Guard House. . She was diecharged by the Mayor as an experiment. ? six foot three inch man, a ditcher, who had walked a great many miles and taken a great many drinks without anything to eat, and therefore empty, was picked up drunk, lying in the street, and as his hoUouiness amounted to vociferous whooping, he was fined $5. . A man who was riding ou horseback, and who had been drinking his whiskey so strong as to make him too treal: to hold the animal in, was ar? rested for hard riding and fined $5. An illustrious gentleman, who had been lodged for being drunk and found lying down in the street, was still in that glorious state, and could not be brought from the cell to be examined by his Honer, It is probable, however, that by the time we m?ike our next report he will be able to give ns'SPaie idea of who he is.
