The Orphan Children.?Wo havo heard with -groat pleasure that these wards of the city will, in a short time, return to their old and comfortable habitation?tho Orphan Aaylum. Two years ago, when it waB found that this building was in danger of being struck by shells, it was determined to end tho children and tho officers of the institution out of tho city, and an elegant building in Ornnge J)urg having boon tendered by a charitable gen tleman of Charleston to the City Council for their use, they were ?ent there, and have remained there ever since. ThoBO poor children, we have no doubt, have passed through a great deal of trouble in this time, although they did not suffer from the ravages of war, for wo havo been told that when General Sherman"? corps passed through that ?place the orphans were treatod with a great deal of?courtesy and kindness. The grief of the child ?vas their trouble?leaving the only happy homo they had over known, for ouo they had never heard of, must indeed have been painful to their little Jiearls; and though they have had all the comforts while there, that could bo obtained, we feel satis fied their eyes will glisten brighter, and their jbxoaata boat with moro joy, when their feet again press tho soil of their happy old home. RoBDEinr.? On Monday night last the residence of a gentleman, at the corner of Bee and Ashley ?treets, was entered, and four bags of rice and one of peas stolen thcrofrom. The theft was com mitted so quietly, though several must have been engaged in it, that it was not discovered until morning. We arc also informed that upon the same night two or three attempts of a similar kind were made In Spring-street, a locality that wo brought atten tion to on Monday morning last. We sincerely hope that some effort will bo made to stop these luidnight robbers in their present career, and allow the residents of tills portion of our city to enjoy a little quiet and repose. Attemi-t to Rob.?About twelve o'clock on Mon day night last, two negroes entered the premises at the north corner of Anson and George-streets, ami were proceeding to make their way into the dwelling, no doubt, to commit a robbery, when the watch-dog attacked them, and they made a precipitate retreat. Florida Central Railroad.? S. L. Niblack, Esq., the energetic President of the Central Rail road, extending from Jacksonville to Lake City, arrived in this city on Tuesday last, en route for New York. He Informs us that ho goes North to purchase new rolling stock for his road, to replaco tho old, which has been rendered almost useless from the wear aud tear of six years' constant service.
