Death of W. F. Al, l ani, Esq. Anderson County has lost another good citizen in tho death of W. P. M. Pant, which occurred at his home near Townville on Tuesday afternoon, 23rd inst. Ho hud been in feeble health for several months but WDS confined to his bed only n few weeks. Mr. Pant was 72 years of ago and was born nour Bei ton. lu his in taney his parents moved to tho Pork, where ho has ever pince lived. Ho was n brother ol'tho late O. ll. P. Pant, of this city, and waB ono ol tho most prominent citizens of his section. In his yoong manhood ho taught 6choul for several years, then settled on his farm, where ho spent his life,'and waa an energetic, successful farmer. He served his State faithfully through tho civil war in tho Fourth South Carolina Cavalry. lu 1877 he WHS appointed a Trial-Jus tice! and with tho exception of one year, lina held that office over since. Since his boyhood ho hud been a devo ted member of tho Baptist Church and for a long while was n deacon in his church. In all things that tended to the welfare of his county he took a leading part in his section, and was naoBt highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends, who will long cherish his memory. Mr. Pant'is survived by a widow and seven children. He hus a brother, r. Edw ard Fnnt. living in Texas, and three sisters, Mia. Lang ston, who lives near Dalton, Cu., JJ rs". Grubbs, who lives iu Texas, and Mrs. Bruce, who lives nt Townville. On the day following his death the re mains were interred iu the Baptist Churchyard Ut T?wpvllle. A Mysterious Case of Infanticide. The dead body of a child was found ? in an old well in the western part cf j the city laat Wednesday. The d?v covery was made by a negro, who through fright or for some oilier rea son did not report his gruesome find until several hoars afterwards. The coroner was notified, and an inqneat was held Thursday morning. The body of the infant had been, in the well probably for two or three weeks, and bad reached such a stage Of de composition that it was difficult to tell whether it was white or black.
